Apparently it is due to some sort of cyst they found on his brain during the treatment he received for "dehydration" after the SEC Title game.

I can't believe there isn't something serious for him to make that decision. I realize everyone here are haters, but this is shit, on a human level bigger than a fucking football game.

At first I was excited for the edge my bearcats might have gotten, but it is probably too little too late, and he is staying on for the game. His health is obviously more important than football. I wish him the best.

After hearing Herbstreit and other ESPN talking heads speak about Meyer's decision after having spoken to him about it, I believe it really isn't a serious health issue and mainly an excuse for him to take some time off and consider all his future options.
He was most likely getting bored or complacent at Florida, and may have considered the Notre Dame gig at some point this past month. When he chose not to take it, he probably started contemplating life without Tebow and the future of having a rivalry with Saban and a possibly resurgent Florida State team.
I think part of him wants an NFL gig as well, since he's reached the pinnacle of success twice in NCAA Football. I'm sure an unbeaten College Football season would be a cherry on the top of his coaching career as well, but that doesn't seem all that likely in the near future, if the SEC continues to be tough.
Alabama this year is actually a rarity when it comes to that conference.

Time will tell, but still have a feeling that this is not a good thing for Meyer. And all that speculation is just that. My speculation is that Urban's health issues haven't been disclosed yet.

Its just kinda weird timing though, right? I would imagine he's known about this for at least a month or so. Why not either wait until after the bowl game, or do it after the final regular season game? Kinda leaves Florida in an interesting position for finding a coach, or is there a deal with an assistant? To be honest, I don't follow Florida all that much other than headlines.

Not so fast, my friend

I guess Corch Irving has a little Billy Donovan in him.

Yeah, as FemDerris theorized, this smells of Coach K's "leave of absence" from Duke years ago. Although there is a bit of a difference between depression and chest pains. FYI - Duke won a National Title like 2-3 years after he came back.

They had a guy on ESPN this morning from the Gainesville paper talking about how Skip Prosser's death had really affected him in 2007 because he's apparently been having these issues as far back as then.

Florida doesn't want to do anything but leave everything up to Meyer if it means he'll come back someday. I honestly think he'll be back in 2011, if not next season.

Tentoze, I don't want Meyer to die in so much as I simply want him to not be the head coach at Florida or any other SEC school.

Also, I'm actually surprised that this isn't more of a regular occurrence among big time football coaches.

So, is Meyer returning or not? When I heard the news, I put together a timeline in my head: Urban moves to the broadcast booth for two years, while Tebow starts at QB in Canada to show he can do it at the pro level, & in 2012, they reunite in Minnesota (along with Percy Harvin) after the Brett Favre Experience fully implodes next year, then Childress is cut loose the year after.

Guess that won't happen?

I don't know why Tebow would go to the CFL when officials from teams like Jacksonville and Washington have mentioned interest in him. I wouldn't be suprised if someone wasted/took a risk with a late 1st round or early 2nd round pick on him, but I guess it really depends on his NFL combine performance.

Tebow should pray he ends up in Canada, or at the least, as a late-round pick. The worst thing that can happen, for him, is being in position to be the next Ryan Leaf or Heath Shuler. Better to try to be Tom Brady or Warren Moon.

I told you he'd drink Tebow's piss and be better....

I seriously don't get why he initially turned down the offer to take a 1yr hiatus, then shows up at practice the next day and then reconsiders his resignation.
This is why there should be at least a 24hr gag order on making these things publicly known, so that you never look like an asshole for reneging on your letter of resignation less than a day after you submit it.

Also Tebow would never be like Leaf or Shuler, since he'll never go in the first five picks like they did. At worst, he'd be like Josh Freeman of Kansas State last year, who was drafted by the Bucs with the 17th pick.

Tebow will drop no further than the Jags first round pick whatever that turns out to be.

And that sound you hear is GM's from teams drafting ahead of Jax ramping up their "we might be interested in this Tebow kid" bullshit.

As for Corch Irving: if he does take next year off, ESPN's college football "analysts" should start working on their resumes because they will hire Irving with the quickness.

Tim Tebow might well end up being the David Clyde of the NFL, then.

According to an SI article from a few weeks back, he has apparently had stress-related headache issues since he was an assistant at Colorado State in the early 90s
