Yeah - I'm not as big a Vic fan as you or Derris, but it always makes me happy that guys like him are out there, operating.

And, a true Athens legend.

Wow. That's horrible news. I've passed up seeing him live like 4 times, I keep saying next time...

I have seen/saw him once. He opened for Jonathan Richman here in Lincoln at a club and during his set some middle aged woman was yelling random crap at him from a loft above the stage because he started ridiculing them for playing pool and talking loud during his set. The crowd pretty much heckled the offending people until they left and then he started playing again.

I probably like the guy more in theory than in practice, but very, very sad news nonetheless.

Pretty much.

Maybe he'll pull through. He's put out some great stuff the last few years.

np: "I'm Through" - the best Keef song not written, nor performed by The Stones.

No Sir. All I have is "The Salesman and Bernadette" (from you, of course)

Would welcome anything you recommend.

Shit, this DOES really suck to read tonight. Drunk is my favorite, but his latest few have been strong, too.

Fuck me. I just passed on him with Guy Picciotto and the Silver Mt. Zion gang a few weeks back.

Any one else seeing reports he is dead? A local booking agent guy posted that he passed on, but no reputable press site or google linked site is reporting it yet.

Actually, no real news outlets are reporting that he is dead...Just a rumor started by one website and picked up and run with. The Atlanta and Athens papers still have him in a coma.

Vic must know how Mike D felt.

This is pretty crazy, from Billboard.com

Quote:
Vic Chesnutt, a singer-songwriter from Athens, Ga. known for his painful and poignant songs, is in a coma after an apparent suicide attempt.

The news about the singer's condition first spread through the Internet on Wednesday through Twitter posts by former Throwing Muses singer Kristin Hersh, who has collaborated with Chesnutt.

"Another suicide attempt, looks bad, coma--if he survives, there may be brain damage," said Hersh in one of her posts. "This time, it's real scary: *this* time, he left a note, *this* time, he asked them to call me."
