...of George Michael's Sports Machine. Around the DC area, he was the king of sports coverage, and GM's Sports Machine was a fixture from the 70s until he was let go in 2007 when NBC4 in DC did a lot of restructuring.

I was talking to a co-worker here at the station today about it, and he was saying that a bunch of years ago, we had a lot of snow, and George Michael refused to drive from his house into DC to do the show. Bowing down to him, the station sent some poor live truck operator out in the snow and ice to drive out to the 'burbs. George Michael did the subsequent show from atop a horse. As I said in my FB status...Clout.

Yeah, growing up overseas, before satellite TV brought English language television, we got AFN (Armed Forces Network) and AFKN (Armed Forces Korea Network). This was how we knew what was going with our teams.

RIP!

The Sports Machine has been permanently unplugged. I always figured the WHAM! George Michael would be the first to check out, likely ODing in some seedy rest stop toilet stall.

I always hoped it would be the SPORKS MASHEENG George Michael who checked out that way.

Loved the Sports Machine growing up. And even though I never was a big Redskins fan, Redskins Report with George, Sonny Jurgensen and John Riggins was usually pretty damn entertaining.
