So, we have spent a better part of the last two days talking bout the Mars Volta Cd.

whats the consensus after 48 hours with the new Doves CD.

Im almost done with my first listen, and I am not really moved after this listen....

First impression: Uninspired.

is this a grower?

My take is since I own the first two, and this really wasn't all that different, I would leave this alone. I hear the songs on KEXP, but they don't make me rush out to buy this record.

"Black And White Town" is great. Rest of album is pretty good and may grow on me further.

I've listened to it three times in the last day or so and I'm really warming up to it. My first thought was that it wasn't as good as the first two so, I'm going to throw on Lost Souls and Last Broadcast for a little compare and contrast tomorrow.

this is really blah so far. i don't really care for it. then again, it's always taken some time for me to warm up to anything of theirs. the last half is seriously boring. i will keep playing it, but i'm not sure it'll really get it done for me. oh well.

lost souls and the last broadcast are two of my all-time favorites and it was probably foolish to have thought a third would live up to them.

I loved Lost Souls from the get go. Firesuite always kills me.
Last Broadcast was a grower, but still thought it was good initially.

Some Cities - maybe it was the pre=release hype but my expectations were let down. I like Black & White town but nothing else stands out to me. It's just ok. Walk in Fire seems to annoy me quite a bit.

nothing can touch 'last broadcast'. i'm not ready to say i'm disappointed yet, but i was expecting something more.

which is unfortunate, as i love the band to death.

I'm just starting to like The Last Broadcast. For a while, the only songs I liked were "Words," "There Goes the Fear," and "M62 Song."

After a few listens, I really enjoy this album. Its a tad bit less then anything Last Broadcast was, but its one of the best new albums i've heard in a few months.

They are one of those bands I rarely think about putting on, but when I do happen upon one of their albums or (by random play), I am always happy to hear.

It grew on me a little, especially 'Snowden'. I think Lost Souls is still their best by far though, although most people seem to like Last Broadcast.

I like it though it not as good as their older ones. "Snowden" and "The Storm" are such great songs.

I really like this one, and think that it is equal to Last Broadcast.

Lost Souls is still the best they've done, probably because it was the CD that was the closest to them emotionally. I dont know how many people know that their studio burned down in the late 90's and they lost everything. The whole vibe of Lost Souls is about that loss and renewal. At least that's my take.

In any event, Some Cities is a very cool.

Does anyone know where the bass line on 'Almost Forgot Myself' is from? You can hear it clearly at the beginning of the song, i think it maybe from an old Motown song or something.

Some Cities is the only Doves album I have heard in its entirety, and I like it.

some cities was my introduction to doves, and i immediately became obsessed. picked up lost souls not too long ago and that seriously blew my mind away. some cities is definitely a different direction than lost souls, but i think it's a great album nonetheless.

and i fuckin can't wait to see them live.

You need to remedy that, Bob, and I mean pronto. Their first 2 albums are better.

After 4 listens, Some Cities just isn't doing it for me---I like it, but it's certainly not top 10 material. I'll keep it in the rotation, though.
