That's right, folks, the speculation has finally turned to reality...there will be an Obner Gathering at SXSW in Austin on Friday, March 18 starting at 3:00 p.m. central time at El Arroyo (1624 W. 5th Street) and moving later that evening to Casa de Peden (1704 E M Franklin Avenue, Apt. C) -- a.k.a. Chuck D/Colin's house -- for a homebrew-fueled afterparty (Colin kindly requests that you bring beer and snacks, to help defray the cost of the homebrew)!!!

Here is the link to the El Arroyo website, including map, menu, and all other pertinent info:

http://www.ditch.com/5thStreet.htm

Now that this has finally got some concrete details, who among you will do something impulsive for once in your life and make the super-easy trip down to A-Tex for this once-in-a-lifetime event???

So far, here are the Obnerinians who have confirmed:

FT
Chuck D
babe
jagged

And here are those who have indicated they might be there (and who I would like to quit waffling and just confirm, already):

Yail Bloor
Sen. LooGAR
Rick Derris
epa
Postmersh
MandyMoore..Fvdge?
Moxie
Lambchop
ducksoup
Odds Bodkins
contradiction
DunwoodyDude
bluejayway
tthorn

As for the rest of you, while I know many simply cannot make it, I also know quite a few others could if they really wanted to...SO WANT TO, DAMMIT!!!
:D

I'm especially looking at all of you within reasonable driving distance:

el_scorcho
aerodynamics
huskerpunk
Nude Dude
coma
schadenfreude

Don't miss the fun, Obner! It's only one night...can't you get away for just one night...for me?

there may be professional musicians in attendance, unfortunately. british ones, even, and we know what a bunch of lousy-toothed krylon-huffing bastards those types can be.

I would love to, but am very poor at the moment. I need to start saving for impulse trips like this.

Are any Obner bands in addition to Liquid Soul playing SXSW this year?

Bon Savants?
Paper Airplane Pilots?
Riviera?
Belleville?
Hop On Pop?
Marlowe?
Illusion of Joy?
Darrin's imaginary band?

Dude, can't you fly Southwest for like $15 or something? (Yeah, I know it's not that cheap, but I'm workin' the hard sell over here.)

I think the goal is to make Obner @ SXSW an annual gig.

Obnish in attendance should do something like burn a cd-r of obscure music to play at the afterparty, or bring an iPod with a short playlist, and we'll tear it up.

My homebrewed beers that will be available:

Mocha Java Oatmeal stout (1 case of 22 oz bottles)

Defensive Creature Real Ale (2 cases of 22 oz bottles)

I'll try to invite a friend who works at a local brewery and see if we cant't get him to bring some beer, too.

Should be, he's at the Mercury Lounge and then Siberia on the 16th and 17th.

I think beers at The Scratcher would suit the evening very well.

Wow, this has the potential to be the biggest obner gathering since the Spade Kitty night at that church to raise money for Todd's cd.

If that were April 18th, I might have come, since the wifey-poo is leaving me all alone when she goes to sweden.
