5 NIGHTS - 5 ALBUMS - TERMINAL 5 - NEW YORK CITY

New York City's Terminal 5 will be presenting a historic five night run of shows in which My Morning Jacket will perform one of their full-length albums in its entirety each night, along with additional songs and covers from each album's time period. The stint will kick off on Monday, October 18th, with a performance of the 1999 debut The Tennessee Fire, and will be followed chronologically by their next four full length albums, ending with 2008's Evil Urges. on Saturday, October 23rd.

Tickets for the shows go on pre-sale on June 14th, with 5-show ticket packages available to fans. The individual shows will go on sale to the public on Friday, June 18th

i'm kind of meh on this after their last album.

I realize the album concert has been done a lot of the last 5 years, but you have to give it to MMJ for keeping it fresh for their fans. They'll be around for a while, unlike Surfer Blood or other flavors of the month. Good on 'em.

i was talking about evil urges....really colored my opinion of MMJ negatively. before that, i was a big fan.

i went thursday and friday. thursday's set broke quite a bit from the album versions. there was some serious jamming. they stretched it still moves to about an hour and a half, but i thought the back half was kinda sloppy. johnny quaid and danny cash played on "one big holiday." quaid played guitar on a couple other songs, too. encore covers were dylan's "tonight i'll be staying here with you", vu's "head held high", the band's "it makes no difference" and lionel richie's "all night long." the frat boys loved the latter.

friday was a better overall show. they kept the arrangements closer to the album, but played "dondante" for at least 20 minutes. quaid was part of a crew who did backing vocals on a few songs, but otherwise no special guests. encore covers were funkadelic's "hit it and quit it", the who's "a quick one while he's away", prince's "i could never take the place of your man" and wham's "careless whisper." jim went on some tangent about george michael being one of the best singers ever and then the band threw a ton of bananas into the crowd.

any idea if they recorded these?

i believe so. the crowd was mic'd from the stage and soundboard.
