Besides PETA, and a few people in Pennsylvania, do people really give a shit about this anymore.
I remember finding it mildly fascinating as a kid, and was amazed the few times he didn't actually see his shadows.
Once you realize there is six weeks either way left on the calendar until the first official day of Spring, it kind of loses its mystique. It also doesn't help matters that the few times he didn't see his shadow were due to those days being some of the most dark and brutally cold days of the year.
Hell, I live in a place where it will reach 70-80 degrees sometime this month only to dump a half foot of snow on us in late April/Early May Blizzard, so why should I care if some Marmot gets pulled from tree stump to see its shadow in some ridiculous ceremony.

That reminds me of the time my grandmother (not fully understanding American holiday traditions) cooked rabbit for Easter when I seven. I think I'm still scarred from that incident.

I was going to say "Of course!" but then I realized I live in PA and don't really qualify according to your standard.

While I don't think people should pay attention to Puxsutawney Phil as a weather predictor, your reasoning here is iffy at best. No one gives a shit about the first official day of Spring--winter exists until it stops snowing (or freezing) and it actually feels like spring. The weather isn't going around saying, "Damn! I was about to dump a blizzard on these poor folks, but I just checked the calendar and I can't anymore!" Likewise, flowers are going to start blooming when the weather allows for it--whether that is before the official start of Spring or after.

No, I ignore the holiday all together, since I stopped following the Catholic Faith.
I'm sure if I ever have offspring, I will play into this farce to be a good parent.
Plus, I love eating chocolate rabbits and cadbury eggs.

I'm sorry if I was pissing on some hokey tradition that somehow made it as a national holiday, but I'd be ridiculing some corn based holiday just as much as the next guy, if something like that existed here.

See I look at this the opposite way. It gives me perverse pleasure to celebrate "religious" holidays without a trace of religion whatsoever. It's like I'm coopting their traditions and robbing them of any spiritual meaning whatsoever. I can hide eggs in the yard all day and never mention some dude popping out of his grave.

Yeah, I simply to choose to go out on Good Friday, get drunk and eat some meat.
I usually do something similar on Holy Saturday, depending on travel plans.

Man, I'm with you. This is the stupidest American tradition that gets nationwide coverage every year.

It's not accurate or even amusing and fuck, I don't even get the day off.

It's time to bury the dumb Groundhog Day like teh Christians did away with the Feast of Lupercalia
