RIYL Andrew Bird.

Heh. Heh.

Sorry. There's not a massive equivalent except maybe Jim O'Rourke because his albums are all different from one another but distinctly his vision. Like this generation's Julian Cope or something.

This might help some: http://www.metacritic.com/music/artists ... tionofeggs

When I read the thread title, this was the album that first came to mind as well---love it.

Andrew Bird is a must-see live too, if you get the opportunity don't pass it up.

I have a feeling that the best album of 2005 will be released in April, and was made by these miscreants:

Agreed. Although Andrew Bird and Archer Prewitt are the only 2005 releases I have thus far.

Doesn't. Bird's swing is like Beck's funk. Only when he feels like it.

Not as bleak as the previous album (which I still don't own but have heard several times), but more along those lines.

I heard snippets. Didn't thrill me. I might acquire the whole album for further investigation.

I agree with Spoon and Shiv... Andrew Bird is always good, but this might be his best yet. T-Birds Are Now! and A Gun Called Tension came out of nowhere for me, but are definitely worthy of a listen.

I like the Thunderbirds Are Now! Demo I have... I might as well nominate this, in addition to the previously afformentioned picture...

Hood - Nothing Closer
Prefuse 73 - Surrounded By Silence
Spoon - Gimme Fiction

I thought the Thunderbirds Are Now! were great live, but their first two releases were awful. Haven't heard the new one, though.

I think it comes out this month...

I'm placing my bet on the new Hold Steady album being better, though...

The Andrew Bird is very good. Probably not #1 good, but likely top 10 good.

Good Record.
There's a hint of Rufus Wainwright in there as well without the Broadway influence.

np : spoon - gimme fiction (this record is growing on me in an effin HUGE way)

"i'm wide awake, it's morning" by bright eyes is my favorite new 2005 release through january, and probably overall. (i give myself 2 months to listen to an album before ranking it.)
