So for the past 3 years Ive used this Dell d620 with its (craptastic) onboard soundcard and crippled SigmaTel Audio drivers. Well, recently I was having trouble getting ASIO4all to work with FL Studio and anyway I came across this post discussing how to hack the generic driver for recording in stereo mix- but generally speaking holy shit... the sound difference for playback is insane.... insane I tell you (esp. in the lower end)- sounds much much better.

What is ironic, is that in the next 6 months I will be replacing this laptop with something similarly craptastic soundcard-wise... wish I would have known about this sooner. But when I do that, I am going to sport one of those Echo Indigo cards....
