Always one for wonders, actor Philip Seymour Hoffman could land the role of cult songwriter Daniel Johnston in an upcoming bio-pic. As The Guardian reports, writer and producer David Miller is at work on the film, which he calls an “epic superhero story.” Although nothing is on paper just yet, Miller has been throwing around names, everyone from John C. Reilly, Johnny Depp, and Mr. Hoffman himself.

“It doesn’t really cover any of the same stuff as The Devil and Daniel Johnston documentary,” Miller tells Pedestrian.tv (via TwentyFourBit). “There’s so many people reaching out that are huge Daniel Johnston fans. Philip Seymour Hoffman and John C Reilly for example. Johnny Depp’s a big Daniel Johnston fan, though we’d like him to play the older brother.”

With the cross-over success of the doc, I'm surprised this hasn't happened already.

Ugh. Why would anyone greenlight this?

I loved the Devil and Daniel Johnston doc, but this has stupid written all over it. If only Spike Jonze or Michel Gondry would direct!! :roll:
