Is buying a three year service plan through best buy for a computer really worth it? I always think of these things as rip-offs...a way to squeeze more money out of the buyer. Plus, I know employees make a sweet commission off of it. But, I if it's worthi it, I'm going to get one.

I bought my computer from Best Buy, and got the three year deal...

I wound up using it about 3 months back, for some software corruption. Even though it wasnt directly covered, the cust servcie people there took care of the problem for free....

so for me, it was worth it.

Computers are the only thing I would ever consider buying the service plan for.

Until the industry wakes up and accepts my genius idea: the single-use disposable computer.

My mother used to run a best buy and even she admits they are largely a rip off. If it's really flawed, the manf warranty will still be in effect by the time it blows up. That said, they really push 'em because a huge fraction of their evaluations is based on the number they can talk people into.
