Truth is, she's not that bad. I think that You Belong To Me is a pop tune of the highest caliber.

Honestly, if you gave one of her songs to a Brill Building person 50 years ago you'd all consider it a classic.

sdd, i happen to agree with you in that her songs are very good pop songs.
they're catchy and infectious. so i guess in that popular culture way she deserves it.
these thing are so subjective anyway.

in any case, she's talented and she's gonna be around for a long while.

I think she's being penalized for being a 17 year old girl writing songs for other 17 year old girls, which probably isn't fair. After she covers Dirty Projectors on her "covers record", she'll be the taste of indiedom.

Maybe they could've waited until she was out of her teens. Like Carole King.

I thought she just received an "emerging artist" award and was not inducted with the other esteemed songwriters like Billy Joel. Maybe I read the article wrong.
