Is it webmail?

Are you using a client such as Outlook?

Are you running any virus protection?

I have the same issue. I use Outlook and have Symantec virus protection

Have you run a symantec update?
Can you see the emails in your sent folder?

Have you tried changing your password so whoever hijacked your account can't access it any more?

yes. web based. and no, no virus protection. this is the first time in 3 years that i've had any issues.

and yes, i've tried changing my password and it may have worked. i'm going to wait and see if anyone complains about spam again.

Someone probably just got your email password, probably by phishing it. Change your password and stop "logging into Paypal" when you get emails about your account from www.paypal.com.ruskies.ru.

Dunno if it works or not, but I've heard that if you make an address entry:

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa@aaaaaaaaaaaaaa.com

It will be the first entry in your address book, which the virus/trojan/worm/whatever is plundering. It will get stuck on that first address and eventually give up. Like I said, I have no idea if this works, nor do I know how those things work. Its worth a try, I suppose.

I've been getting a lot of this from people lately. I think the spammers found a hole in the firewall or something. Have you contacted your provider (gmail, hotmail, whatever)?

When this happened to me a few years ago, the provider gave me a msg about "forged headers."

yeah, i have gotten a bunch of these in the last few weeks. but i can guarantee that nobody ever receives one from me. (i don't keep contact lists.)

Z: they seem to all be coming from GMail, which I'm pretty sure creates your contact list automatically, so I'm not sure that would help. I'm wondering if this could be a security breach at Google.

i've gotten a few from hotmails and yahoos too in the last couple weeks too. it seems like an all-out bust.
