HBO has ordered an eighth season of Larry David's "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

The network renewed the series for its standard 10 episodes, which will debut next year.

“After much soul searching – and by the way, it was nowhere to be found – I have decided to do another season of 'Curb,' ” creator David said. “I look forward to the end of shooting, when I can once again resume the hunt for my elusive soul. I know it’s here somewhere or perhaps in the rugged mountainous regions of Pakistan.”

Adds HBO programming president Michael Lombardo: “Larry always loves to paint himself into a corner, and after the incredibly wonderful seventh season of 'Curb,' you have to ask, ‘How does he ever top this?’ But he always finds a way. We can’t wait to see what he does in season eight.”

With 70 episodes to date, "Curb" has become HBO's longest-running scripted series.

I thought much of this was improv? Perhaps "loosely" scripted.

Premier is Sunday, July 10.

here's a little teaser: http://www.aoltv.com/2011/07/06/curb-yo ... d-to-know/

7. Ever wonder what Larry David was like as a young boy? We find out in an episode called 'Mister Softee.' The storyline is too delicious to spoil here, but suffice it to say that it is not only one of the greatest scenes in 'Curb' history, but it also explains a lot about Larry and why he is the way he is.

9. Leon's back! J.B. Smoove's scene stealer is still living in Casa de David, inexplicably, and the Larry/Leon bromance continues to be as hilarious as ever.

i couldn't get over that the girl scout was loretta from "justified."

my dad has been staying with me for a couple days and he'd never seen "curb." he was pretty much in hysterics.

On the contrary... few sitcoms have ever had such a carefully constructed architecture. The stories incrementally develop along tightly scripted lines. Little details in one episode are reflected in an episode much later. David is the Borges of the sitcom. Labyrinthine boxes of poison and yucks.

I won't go as far as to say that I didn't like the season 8 opener, but after 70 episodes the formula is becoming a little obvious/tired... It's really more of a smile-to-yourself than laugh-out-loud funny show for me these days.

Yea, I kept seeing Loretta as well. Is it me or did she look younger on Curb?

Funny you mention your dad. My dad has caught up with the series over the past year on Netflix and he liked it so much that he remarked earlier this year that it was his favorite show ever.

Between loving Curb, getting an iPhone (and subsequently emailing me photos of beer he is drinking taken with the iPhone), and buying a Mini Cooper - I don't know if its a midlife crisis-type deal or if he is just loosening up. But good for him.

It is like the Obner Divorce Curse thread. I look forward to their quests after "running their bitches asses into the ground."

That back and forth between Leon and Funkhauser was awesome. Probably my favorite part of the ep.
