THE CONCEPT
I'll never have enough music, but at the moment, I have enough. Ask me to name one good song on the new Blonde Redhead album. Just ask! I cannot tell you because I'm listening to it NOW for the first time! This morning I've done some cd organizing. I just finished filling up my last cd case (remember that S-Z stuff a while back?). That makes 6 cases at 200 discs each, on top of my three 500+ count shelves. It's time I delved deeper into the music I have. I want to. I think I can do it.

THE MISSION
Starting January 1st, 2005, I will not buy, borrow, or download any new music. Nothing from 2005, nothing from ANY YEAR. I will instead focus on the albums I already own and enjoy, or have not given enough time to in the past.

THE CONTEST
Who can guess that date that I will break down? Closest to the date is the winner. Winner will receive The Prize Box!

RULES
Make your guess below. Once you guess you cannot edit or delete your post. Your guess must be made on or before December 31st, 2004. On the date that I break down I'll make an annoucement and name the winner.

DETAILS
Listening to new music must be done by my hand. If I'm in a music store or club or somewhere else where I'm not controlling the decks, it does not count.

QUESTIONS? Ask away and I'll update before the contest officially starts Jan. 1st.

All of your Christmas gift certificates must be spent before the beginning of the year. If you have gift certs staring you in the face it will effect my prediction.

With no certificates:

March 1st

Let's see...6 cases (200 each) + 3 shevles (500 each) ~ 2700 CDs. Assuming 40 minutes per CD that's 108,000 minutes worth of music. If you spend 10 hours a day listening to music which I would say is pretty generous that gives you about a half a year of music. Therefore, my guess is 7/1/2005.

there's no such thing as too much music. I can plow through stuff that sucks in no time.

I'll give you until... 6 p.m. January 10th, and I'm being generous with that. You'll probably cave in much sooner. The mind is strong, but the flesh is weak!.

Are you expecting joy or despair at Valentines? Also, will any significant other support or attempt to undermine you in this matter? It's going to be cold and dark and dull in Syracuse this winter; will that drive you out to the shops, yes or no?

I say 18 Feb.

I'm resisting temptation from all, here and at home.

Gift certs will be spent before the end of the year. I know it's horrible, but I'm thinking of asking my mom for just spendin' cash, that way I go to Media Play and get stuff AND get the rewards points for it.

newt - you forgot to calculate that some cds only fill a "single" slot even though they are two discs total. Stevie Wonder's "Songbook" comes to mind. also i forgot to mention my cassettes and LPs and 7" singles.

i don't drink

bort

ps - i'm surprised no one has asked about The Prize Box yet!

I figured there would be double CDs to contend with, but for the sake of statistical simplicity I made the assumption they were all single CDs. We'll call those double outliers and just hope that you skip over the second disc. Either that or the double CDs should balance out the EPs and vicey versey.

p.s. is there a pony in the prize box?

Bort, this is like me trying to go without drinking...it may seem like a good idea when you concieve it, but you are just setting yourself up for failure.

You will inevitably hear about something that you're just going to have to hear. I would say you may make it a week.

Anyone have a 2005 release schedule? I'll base my guess on it.

I think this is hilarious that no one is giving you a snowball's chance in hell. Dude why deprive yourself? Isn't that how we all got here to begin with......because we're obsessive compulsive music/art lovers

I'M NOT TELLING WHAT'S IN THE PRIZE BOX!!! Hehehe.

also, i don't feel like i'm depriving myself. if someone has two children that they love more than anything, are they "depriving" themselves by not having a third? can't they just be happy with what they've got?

bort
