AUSTIN CITY LIMITS SEASON 36 CURRENT BROADCAST SCHEDULE
(Check local listings for exact dates and times. Additional broadcast schedule to be announced soon.)

October 2, 2010 Jimmy Cliff
October 9, 2010 Spoon
October 16, 2010 Patty Griffin & Friends
October 23, 2010 Alejandro Escovedo / Trombone Shorty
October 30, 2010 Robert Earl Keen / Hayes Carll
November 6, 2010 Steve Martin / Sarah Jarosz
November 13, 2010 Rosanne Cash / Brandi Carlile
November 20, 2010 John Legend & The Roots

A little thin but there is some nice balance and diversity. Looking forward to Spoon (stoked they are getting a full hour) since I missed them this time around and Escovedo since his new one has been getting a lot of spins.

On a sort of related note: Remember that discussion we had a while back about where people hear or hear of music? ACL is one of those places.

I'm working on getting into that Roots taping next week. Questlove is doing a DJ set at a punk club afterward. This town is fucking awesome.

REK drains all my lifeforce. He is "headlining" (based on all of the promotional material) a weekend arts festival being put on by the city where I work in October. My office is right next door to the City's Marketing Director, who is underselling the other two acts: OLD 97's and POLYPHONIC SPREE. Both of these VASTLY SUPERIOR acts are getting far lesser billing, due to her lack of musical awareness. She described Polyphonic Spree to our City Council as "kind of a funky choir."

She's a Florida alum, which explains her uselessness.

Cool thing is both Old 97's and the Spree play the same night (Friday) for $5. REK plays on Saturday, so I'll be sitting that one out. Whole thing happens almost (ALMOST) walking distance from my apartment. I'm exaggerating a smidge, but it's about a 5-minute drive.

Damn, this season of ACL is BLAAAAAAND.

I'll watch Spoon and Rosanne Cash, if only for her husband/guitarist John Leventhal's Tele guitar tones.

Either that or she knows that Old 97's and the Spree are both terrible.

No one's looking forward to Patty Griffin? Seriously?

I like Brandi Carlile's voice too although she's a little weak with the writing.

I like Jimmy Cliff and Alejandro Escovedo a lot but it seems like the music stuff I record (other than Spectacle) always sits forever in my tivo. Not sure if I'll catch any of these or not.

Bob, you live in the vast suburban wasteland of North Dallas. 98% of the failures that will consider attending your city's 2010 FailFest went to UT, A&M, or T Tech, where listening to REK at frat parties was like going to Athens and getting into Widespread. It's just something that happens. You could use her budget in equal thirds to push each band and drive your attendance down 66% or you could push REK and not have this thing tank so drastically that the revenue earmarked for your salary is lost. I suggest keeping all 10 fat fingers out of that pie.
