CoS has become one of my daily reads. They post way more news throughout the day, and most of their articles/features are well-written. If and when you look at the number one record, read the write-up. The fact that this is why they chose it and elicited responses from readers made it worthwhile, imo.

Seeing Kanye and that Beck album in a Best 100 albums of all time list made me stop.

I skipped ahead to #1...

I don't necessarily disagree with the choice or the opinions of the people they printed there. It's a great fucking album.

I kind of like this list, in that they're mostly good albums and they're not trying to be needlessly obscurist or hip.

I really like this list... I think I may just have to add Consequence of Sound to my daily reading list as well.

Thanks, Flying Rabbit!!!

Midnight Vultures is Beck's worst album, IMO. Not that it doesn't have some nice party tracks and all that, but it's not anywhere close to his creative/songwriting/lyrical apex.

I have 21 of those albums. I think maybe there are 2 that I've been meaning to add. There's a handful there that I like ok but wouldn't put on my list (NOTE TO SELF: UPDATE LISTMANIA), and there's a bunch that I avoid like the plague.

And they weren't worried about the one band/one entry crap.

That was my take on it as well. If Talking Heads made 3 spectacular albums, why not not that they made 3 spectacular albums.

Perused it briefly. Fleeting thoughts:

1) I forgot how much I loved REM's "Document". I like other albums of theirs more but when it came out it was a game changer for me.
2) I've never heard Prefab Sprout's "Steve McQueen". Is it worth the time?
3) I've been meaning to put together a mix of George Harrison songs for years, Beatles and Solo stuff.

They have Genesis on that list, and it's really high up.

I used to read CoS earlier this year, starting when they were breaking Bonnaroo artist rumors but some of the writing on the site was just plain bad. Maybe it has improved?

They were also annoying to follow on Twitter.

Just curious--what posts or articles are you reading that are horribly written?

Agree 100% and I consider it their best (or at least my favorite) based largely on that.

That top 10 is so typical of today's indie hive mind. Fucksakes, I can hardly wait for y'all to grow up.

Yeah, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Clash, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd...

Real indie.

I'm sure a top 100 from Rolling Stone wouldn't be remarkably different. Dylan and The Stones would be in the top 10, obviously.

That's a pretty major reading comprehension fail, even for you.

well, to start:

The self-titled debut album from acid-rockers The Doors was released in 1967, climbing to #2 on the Billboard charts and achieving multi-platinum status. Featuring 11 tracks mostly penned by the poetic frontman Jim Morrison, the album has stood up to the test of time and is an essential component of any serious music collection. Featuring the hit single “Light My Fire” and covers of the scat-filled “Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar)” and “Back Door Man”, this album launched The Doors into their current status as classic rock icons. The fittingly titled “The End” closes out the album with nearly 12 minutes of singing, talking, storytelling, and guttural screaming over haunting guitar riffs. This album was just the beginning for the band that created music that has endured long after Morrison’s untimely death just four years after the release of this debut album. Its influence is rampant. Just look at old performances by Ian Curtis, or ask Iggy Pop.

OK, let me try again.

Well, fuck, I give up. You're just going to have to explain this one again.

It's not a failure in reading comprehension, by the way, if I don't automatically know if you're being sarcastic or making some jokey reference to something I don't remember.

Maybe I'm supposed to understand your moronically insular opinion that only the "indie hive mind" would place those albums in a top 10.
