The only thing I think I would use it for is streaming Netflix and I've already got something for that.

But yeah, makes me glad I never pulled the trigger on the old one (which I almost did roughly 50 times when Sam's carried it)

Any opinion on the new itunes stuff?

Quote:
Jobs said iTunes 10 brings new ways for people to learn what their friends are listening to. The feature, called Ping, is likely based on the technology Apple acquired with the purchase of Lala.com last year. The Ping section in iTunes lets people "follow" friends, musicians and others, similar to the way Facebook and Twitter work. Ping builds custom top-10 lists based on what the people someone follows are listening to.

I don't want every person I know knowing what I listen to and already have multiple outlets where I learn about new stuff.

If I didn't already have my entire library in my itunes I probably wouldn't use it all.

In general, I'm fairly anti-people having access to me at any time.

Arg. I've been looking forward to a new iPod Touch... and love all the little things they've added to it. However, I think this is the first time there hasn't been a capacity upgrade. Sorry Apple, some of us need more than 64GB. I've kept myself under that by using some self-restraint... but I'm not sure it is worth upgrading just to get the better screen/cameras/etc. Temping, yes. But not the sure-fire purchase it would have been otherwise.

(I'll still probably get it because I wuv my touch and want all the little possible gadgets with it.)

Ping seems to be exactly like Last.FM.

I am, too. Of course, in the 3-4 years it will take me to save $99, I'm sure they will already be several versions down the line.

Don't have to pay for Live though, which is going up in price soon. I want something I can stream Netflix on other than my Xbox since I don't want to pay for XBL anymore.

So is the iphone going to 64GIG? Is that what i saw, or were they talking about the itouch?

Just bought one last year, but i figure in 2 years, when the iphone is serviced by verizon, i'll buy one of those babies.

i agree though that 64GIG isn't enough capacity. i'd love to fit ALL of my music on the phone plus other stuff. Can't wait for the 256 gigger! :-)

yeah, but it's relatively cheap right now I think, if it goes up in price I'll have to see what the difference would be.

That's what I was thinking. I actually just learned about this today via Large Hearted Boy's blog. Maybe its my love of last.fm, or possibly an aversion to change--but based on the pics, it just looks tough to navigate. I don't mind people seeing what I listen to per se...but its kinda weird to show purchases on itunes.

Both of these seem like Apple realizing they missed some huge opportunities and are scurrying to catch up. I won't do Ping but I bet it'll be a really big hit with people who don't know about last.fm.

As for Apple TV, my Roku player works great so I'll stick with that.

I signed up for Ping just to give it a try... seems fairly pointless at this point. Of course, there hasn't been much time for other people to sign up, so we'll see what happens. Not going to worry about it one way or the other. If it becomes a social hub, great... if not, I don't have to think too much about it.
