Röyksopp: Senior

Last couple releases from these guys were a bit dancey for my tastes, but this one is all instrumental electronic moodiness done quite well. If you want something laid back and electronic this year, this is a very good pick.

Yeah, really. This'll be my second time listening to it.

Honestly, so many things that fall into the noise/drone category are so much like it, that it isn't such big a deal. I wouldn't say I like it - or that I don't - but I can listen to it. It's long and somewhat monotonous, naturally, but it is pretty texturally dense. It isn't some lazy cast-off, at least. There are a lot of layers, and whatever he was thinking when he did it, he spent a lot of time on it and orchestrated it pretty carefully.

It's funny to me because if he was some sound artist/experimental type, no one would have batted an eye at this album, but because it's Lou Reed, it's infamous.

I think it's easier to get through than that Royal Trux album. But then I haven't tried to get through the whole thing in a single sitting yet so maybe not.

Tricky: Mixed Race

Not much to say, another Tricky album. By now, you're probably either a fan or you think he's just used up and irrelevant. I'm a fan and as always he brings some great moody productions with beats influenced from all over the place and sounds swirling in and out from a smattering of influences far and wide with a few different guest vocalists at the table. This one is short and sweet and I'd rank it above last year's Knowles West Boy. Not gonna change the mind of people who have written him off, but if you still enjoy what he does, you'll not be disappointed.

I really need to get to know this band a bit. Thanks for the reminder, Billy.

And, as for the Lloyd Cole: Having listened a couple more times, the production isn't quite as grating as it was at first, but I'm not all the way there yet. Although, I can hear the songs beneath it all. I think that I'll enjoy it; but I don't think he'll ever be a favorite.
