OFF! was formed in Los Angeles, California in late 2009 by Circle Jerks/Black Flag singer Keith Morris, Burning Brides frontman Dimitri Coats, Redd Kross bassist Steven Shane McDonald, and Rocket From The Crypt/Hot Snakes drummer Mario Rubalcaba. The idea to form the band came after Coats had worked as producer on a Circle Jerks album which fell apart. During that time, Morris and Coats had written several songs together which they used to start OFF!. The group made its live debut at the 2010 South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas. OFF!'s first Los Angeles show featured an original art installation by Raymond Pettibon at a downtown warehouse space.[1][2][3][4][5]


OFF!'s first release debuts in the autumn of 2010. Entitled "First Four EPs," the collection contains sixteen songs divided amongst four releases, each featuring the artwork of Raymond Pettibon.

I expect to buy all these for the nostalgia and the Pettibon artwork if nothing else. Music I'm sure will be solid as I always thought the Circle Jerks were great and Keith's early work was some of the best stuff Black Flag ever did.

There's a funny scene in the new Bob Forrest documentary about how Bob Forrest (Thelonious Monster), Keith Morris and some other musician who I'm forgetting all worked in this small coffee shop/diner (Millie's for Angelenos that might be curious) together a few years ago. Keith was a busboy, Bob was a dishwasher and the woman I'm forgetting worked the cash register.

The owner said that Gwen Stefani came in once and did a double take.
