Per an interview in an old issue of Magnet, Andy Partridge from XTC used to masturbate using a rubber shark toy he bought at a convenience store. Apparently, when you squeezed the toy, it created a powerful sucking sensation though the mouth. He says this helped him remain faithful on the road.

the BBC banned the 1941 recording by Billie Holiday of the song “Gloomy Sunday”. people have either quoted it in suicide notes or been found dead with a copy of the music in their hand or the record found on a player in their presence. also known as “The Hungarian Suicide Song.”

maybe fairly well-known already, but:
Jimi Hendrix played rhythm guitar with the Isley Brothers' touring band.

also:
Marvin Gaye was a session drummer that had to practically beg to be given a chance to sing.

John Cale's backing band on the very studied, classic Paris, 1919 album consisted primarily of members of the normally rough-hewn band Little Feat.

A one-string African guitar is called a bo diddley. That’s where bluesman Ellas Bates got his stage name.

Alot of amazing female singers are pretty amazing instrumentalists in their own right.

Aretha played piano and has quite a few piano credits in the beginning of her career
Image

as did Nina Simone, who like Miles Davis, also had classical training at Julliard

but could jazz it up

and sometimes she brought the funk

and Barbara Mandrell is a hoss pedal steel player.

the Marvin Gaye post made me think of these.
