I'm feeling like a night of seasonal beers and horror movies. What are your suggestions? I'll take funny horror, blood n guts horror, or creepy horror. Whatever sounds best. Go.

I'm sure someone will post a link to the huge horror flicks thread on here but since you're a newbie you get a pass. Probably should have a fresh one for Halloween anyway.

Not my favorite genre but I love a good frightfest every now and then.

Couple from the last few years that I really dug:

The Hills Have Eyes (2007? remake):

Some may find this blasphemy but I never saw the original and this creeped me out and the "trailer scene" is still jarring as hell. Can't imagine seeing this the first go round in '77.

The Descent:

Great "boogey man in the dark" flick made all the more claustrophobic by being set underground in a labyrinth of caves. Great ambiguous ending as well.

Martyrs:

French horror flick that is completely disturbing and borders on torture porn. Left me bothered for days.

Yeah, I second Let The Right One In.

I also like The Serpent and the Rainbow except for the last 15 or so minutes.

that was one of those movies i always wanted to see when i was a kid, and then i saw it a few years ago and was like "eh." the ending was super hokey.

reanimator and from beyond are both real good shlock-horror classics

I'm not a huge fan of Stephen King but I liked The Mist.

The Host is pretty good as well, just don't watch it with English dubbed over.

I probably have recommended this at one point or another, but new thread= new pimping- The Innocents:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055018/

No blood, no gore, no monsters, no chainsaws, no torture, just a superbly crafted/written/acted creepy-ass movie.

Paranormal Activity

Not so new:
The Orphanage

Nosferatu Its a classic for a reason. With the lights off, it still can give you the heebie jeebies.

Candyman I always kinda liked this. I think the original is pretty well made.

The Brood or Scanners I think Cronenberg mades some of the best horror films, and wish he would return to it. Not that I haven't enjoyed his more recent work, but I really love his work with suspense and horror.
