Matt can back me up on this.
Just had it for the first time last night.
The rest of the food was good.. not great, but definitely good.

But the egg roll... oh my lord.

So you're suggesting that I spend money on not so great food just to have that egg roll?

No.. the rest of the food is very good.
Just not the best.
But yes, the egg roll alone is worth the trip to Kow Kow.

And I don't know what's on top, it wasn't on mine.
But they do make homemade sweet & sour sauce and hot mustard, both. And those are excellent, as well.

matt, i'm going to have to get verification of this statement, accompanied by receipts from every other egg roll vendor to prove its veracity.

I don't think I'll be dining at a place called Kow Kow.

O.k. so where's Kow Kow and what makes this egg roll so special? Be specific.

Kow Kow is on the southeast corner of Pratt and Cicero in Lincolnwood.
You know it's gonna be decent, at the very least, because that's where all the old Jews live. And they know where to eat Chinese.

The egg roll is special for many reasons:
-quality vegetables that actually maintain their own flavor
-good pork
-the right amount of that very special egg roll ingredient: peanut butter... adds flavor but doesn't overpower
-the wrap is not the usual wonton skin, but a homemade batter, of sorts, that is actually crispy; no give, just crunch
-the condiments (sweet n sour and mustard) are homemade in the very same kitchen. none of that packaged crap.

Convinced?

Oh, and I agree that the above picture is not the most flattering, but it's the only one I could find on the Net.

So why is the rest of the food mediocre then? Seems like it all should be good from the way they make their egg rolls.

Old Jews know Chinese Cuisine. I learn something new everyday.

Very good.
Just not to the same standard as the egg rolls.

I friggin' love egg rolls.

The dining hall here makes really good ones, but only gives them out one at a time. We double team the lines to stockpile a bunch.
