Why?
Because I found out that I am related, on my mother's side, to Abe Sapperstein, the team's founder.

I never met anybody from that part of my family, even though my mother and aunt used to play with his daughter when they were little. It would just be cool to connect.

I just hope I get a response.

That's awesome Todd. Speaking of being related to people, on one of the sports talk shows I listen to yesterday:

Image

That fat bastard there on the left was talking about how Vic Chestnut is his cousin. The other dude had no idea, so Vic Chestnut was reduced to this description "He does that acid folk thing, he's got a lot of problems"

I guess that's accurate.

There was an interesting documentary on PBS last week featuring Sapperstein & the Globetrotters. Did you catch it by any chance?

Absolutely!
It's part of what inspired me to contact them.

I read a book when I was a kid about the team's history. They have been around for so long that everyone knows a different generation of the team. The main "jester" when I was a kid was..

Meadowlark Lemon

I agree that Meadowlark was awesome (Curly Neal, too!).
But I'm not looking for anything from them – just to get in touch.

The Globetrotters used to put on an awesome show, but I haven't seen them in probably 15 years. Out of curiousity I looked them up a little while ago, and it seemed that they don't get quite the attention they used to. Then again, maybe it was just the down part of the season.

Likely story. Just admit that it is your lifelong dream to be the point guard of the Washington Generals and move on with it. :D

I think the And 1 tour players are this generation's Globetrotters. They don't attract the crowds like the HGs & Generals did, but it looks to be gaining steam. They'll never make ABC's Wide World of Sports though - I used to catch that shit and the empty bucket of confetti trick every damn year. I still got the fever.

I forgot about that. That's a good point.

You might as well burn an effigy of Pres. Taft and join the Green Party bc you hate America.

I do like the Mad Professor, though.

The Globetrotters should be our basketball team each Olympics. I'm not kidding.

No that is what all the Black dudes on the show refer to him as! African Americans and Southerners use nephew and cousin in the less literal sense!

Thusly, Snoop Dogg said of Eminem (on the Marshall Mathers LP), "With my nephew Eminem/ what up cous'?"

His nephew, and cousin?

... Inbreeding?
