As I sit having just watched Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer on CBS and look at the box containing my Dad's Christmas gift, I again think that I don't really need anything material to add to my life. Since my Mom asked, I had to provide her with a list of assorted apparel so I'd have something to open when we open gifts. The only things that come to mind would be a Blu-Ray player and a really nice bottle of Irish whiskey, but that's as far as my imagination goes.

Femdisco and I are giving each other framed copies of three Hatch Show Prints: Neil Young Prairie Wind 8.18.05 & 8.19.05 Ryman Auditorium, Neil Young 6.1.10 & 6.2.10 Ryman Auditorium and Neko Case 7.25.09 Ryman Auditorium

So, here's a thread to post here your gift wishlist, what you're buying for others, etc.

I have 2 framed Hatch show prints, and love them. I've managed to limit them to shows I've actually been at, though. Both Ryman shows.

Sometimes I wish I lived in Nville.

Getting Sébastian a new skateboard. Not one of those crap things you get at target either. A proper board from the shop. My gift will be padding him up, and hitting the skate park with him.

Other than that, I'd like some whisky.

My kids get the usual- checks.
I'm looking for a vintage IRA-era how-to manual on pipe bombs to finish up a present for the person I was involved with for a year up until last week.
As a follow-on to successfully delivering the present described above, a get out of jail free card for me.

We bought my dad the tom waits/ preservation hall 78 that just came out because he's a huge waits fan and is currently restoring a 1930s jukebox, and this was the newest 78 that I've seen.

Damn Toze. Sorry to hear it.

Think of it this way, one less gift to have to buy. Also, I know a few safe houses in Atlanta if needed.

As for me, there is an age-old divide between FemDerris' family and mine when it comes to Christmas gifts. My family are list people. Her family isn't. They want you to find something with little guidance. They are clearly unevolved and it's an issue.

The only thing I've hinted at was this:

Image

Canon's new powershot that came out this Fall. I had my camera dropped back in 2009 and FemDerris had hers stolen last New Year's Eve so we've been cameraless for far too long.

We've got a standing yearly request for Regal gift cards so we can go see several of the Oscar nominated movies during Oscar season.

Looking at getting my wife a camera, too, and I need to hurry up and make a decision. Not that it really matters to her whether or not she gets it on Christmas, but it would be nice to have a good camera on Christmas day. We've kind of let our daughter's first year of life be documented almost solely on our shitty old Canon Elph, and that needs to stop soon.

This divide is a problem for us too. Except Femfish's family are the list people and we're not. If you know what you're getting, why not just buy it yourself?

FWIW, I asked my pro photog friend for recs and she pointed me to that one. It's a little more pricey than your standard point and shoots but she says it has some really advanced features for a P&S. When she's not using her SLR she uses it for candids.

Shoots HD quality video too.

And I want a ton. At the top of the list is a super benriner mandolin and Springsteen Promise box set. I'd also like the Live at Leeds Box.

I guess my need to not put someone in the position of faking happiness for a shirt, cd, etc they find abhorrent outweighs my need to be surprised.

Case in point: My dad's side of the family draws names and there is a $50 limit for the gift. 2 years ago my 18 year old cousin (freshman as college) gave me a Hollister gift card. What am I going to do with that? Even worse, after my mom told them the stores I shop at, the same girl drew my name again, and I got............................another Hollister gift card.

Work from the list and you can't go wrong.

$100 dollars in Hollister gift cards is an amazing way to meet high school chicks. You should thank your cousin. All you need now is a little Boone's and let the magic happen.

Already took the bitch to Costa Rica for a week at the first of Nov as Xmas present. Will advise on safe-house needs.

The Redlands shop/studio is always open for exiles and convicts, 'toze.

I'm not asking for much: I recently bought a bike so some accessories for that, the usual clothes and whatnot.

FemBloor's family will accept a list but reserve the right to buy you shit you don't want, my family likes a list and will stick to it...of course all of that is inconsequential because all any of them want to know is what the baby wants.

I got the previous model, the S90, and love the shit out of it. I think the main difference between the two is that the S90 doesn't shoot HD vid, which isn't a big deal for me since I have never really shot video. I love the lowlight shots I get with it. So I would definitely recommend this as well (not that I am a pro photographer). In fact, I recommended this camera to a friend of mine just the other day.

The baby wants boxes and wrapping paper and donations to his fucking 529 fund assholes - I put that on my list and the wife cries and he gets all kind of expensive shit that last for 4-6 months. Send his ass to college, fuggers!

I ordered 2 pairs of pants from Otto The Tent Maker, along with a pair of tassle loafers....I usually am the guy that wants to be "surprised" but no one, save my MiL, buys gifts like me, so I always get the shit end of the stick unless I am very specific. Plus, I needed some finery for my upcoming NYC trip. Other than that I asked my family to give to the 529 or a charity of their choice in lieu of buying me more shit I don't want or need.
