Thanks for posting that. I haven't listened to much new jazz this year. I noticed these getting mention on a lot of lists:

Jason Moran (like what I've heard from him playing with Charles Lloyd, should probably check out his records)
Randy Weston (know the name but don't have anything by him)
Omar Sosa (don't think i've ever heard of him)
Charles Lloyd (he's great but I've still not heard the new one on record, only live)
Vijay Iyer (never heard of him)
Azar Lawrence (I've seen him live a few times and was impressed but never listened to his records)

Surprised that Dee Dee Bridgewater's tribute to Billie Holiday didn't make any lists. I can't vouch for it myself but I like her and thought I'd read good things about it.

Jason Moran has had an amazing year. I love his own record and the Charles Lloyd one, but he's also in the Paul Motian Trio that is mentioned a few times which I'd recommend, and plays on the Rudresh Mahanthappa & Bunky Green record as well.

I'm suprised the Fred Hersch Trio didn't make a few more lists, i thought that was excellent.

I went through NPR's jazz list and most of it was terrible. Matthew Shipp - 4D was pretty bad but I thought it was last year anyway. That Dave Holland Octet record fucking rules though - huge sound.

I can't remember if I had that Rudresh album or not, probably not - but I had mixed feelings about last years.

Oh and i still don't like that Bill Frisell and finally gave up on the Pat Metheny, even though it is made by robots.
