I'm somewhat of a fan. I'd recommend Milk and Scissors. I do find their albums get somewhat samey and kind of boring. But they'll drop some stunning songs. My favorite is "Drunk by Noon." Lead singer's vocals remind me of the Butthole Surfers if they were a folk band.

It's no different now - people trying to outdo ! each other in extremes. There are people who like X, and there are people who say X are wimps; they like Black Flag.

Brett Sparks' voice is like an Old Testament Prophet when he lets it loose (and when the Haldol's working). Try Through The Trees or Singing Bones. Rennie writes some of the most ethereal, dysfunctional lyrics you're likely to find. I love them. And if I had a chance to get to that show, I'd watch them, and run for the door before Tweedy got near the stage, but that's just me.

I would start with Twilight. That's what got me hooked.

I'm a fan and will split my vote between Through the Trees and Twilight.

Back about 15 years ago I was hired for my first full-time copywriting gig. My predecessor was Rennie Sparks.
Everyone there loved her.

Really dig them. I believe "Last Days of Wonder" made my top 20 in 2006. "Honey Moon" was good too from last year.

I heard about them through the wonderful "Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus" film. If you haven't checked that out, I high rec it.

By the way, not what I would suggest to start off with, but their Scattered released this year is a good collection of odds and ends and demos and covers and the like.
