How do you guys deal with these folks?

Dude here has the loudest voice ever when on the phone. Just found out he's got cockroaches in his place, and that he's picking up a Toy r Us gift certificate after work.

Should I go slam his office door shut?

I solve this problem by being the founder and president at my own company ;)

I think, aside from Toots' suggestion, you should probably just send him an email discreetly. He may not know he has cell yell or whatever you want to call it.

Just say something like "Hey dude, you may not know that we can all hear you every time you're on the phone, so either talk a little quieter, or at least stop trying to score blow and cast those scheisse films your doing on the side."

If he doesn't get the picture, start playing extremely loud pornography every time he's on important calls.

Unfortunately, I have a partner who is the loudest talker I've ever heard 2 doors down from my office. Annoys the shit out of me. But I'm not in a position to say/do anything.

Take Gar's advice. If he can't be more quiet politely ask him to shut his door when talks on the phone.

there's a saleswoman who sits near my department. she's so loud that people who sit 50 feet away have complained about her voice. we've left notes and asked her to bring it down a notch, asked for her to be moved, etc. she thinks it's all very funny that people think she's loud.

i know her life story. i also have her phone number, credit card numbers, addresses of both of her homes, weekly travel schedule, IDs for honors/loyalty programs she's enrolled with, etc. let's just say this information won't go unused.

You should work at the post office for a day. I swear I've never worked with dumber and more unfunny people.

Overall, no one on my floor is too bad about this. If it does happen, I just put on my headphones and turn them up.

I sit in an AISLE full of loud talkers. They all congregate in the cube across from me and have little mini parties.
I just keep my headphones on and try to get my shit done.

there used to be an upper level mgmt dude here who would engage in high-intensity sales calls on a bluetooth headset, walking up and down the aisles. bugged the shit out of many of us.

I really can't relate to wanting to talk on my phone in the presence of other people. I can't even stand to talk on the phone with my wife in the same room, let alone a bunch of strangers.

Agreed. People with no regards for their surroundings. Makes me want to punch them in the face.

Also, loud, obnoxious ringtones. I've got a girl that's in the office next to me who leaves her cell phone on her desk. If she's not there we all have to endure some Justin Beiber song until it goes to voicemail.

I've used vibrate for over 6 years now.

I work in a loft-type space with open desks. There is zero privacy. In general it's very quiet, "the silent gymnasium." But a rogue ringtone goes off and I swear we all want to strangle the person.

So, I'm watching TV the other night, (granted it was Antique Roadshow, but they had this piece of shit fiddle that I knew was going to be worth a bazillion, so I didn't change the channel.) My wife proceeds to initiate a phone call and start talking and laughing loudly so I can't hear the TV. I made a point to turn it up pretty loud. After her conversation, she called me inconsiderate. To which I replied, well, if my TV were cordless, I would have moved to another room so as not to disturb you. (Ah...love.)

btw, the fiddler (or violin) wasn't worth shit, but the Bow was worth $8 to $14K!

I've also always been amazed that when I'm in the middle of a conversation with someone (over the phone or in-person), the second that person gets a phone call, it's totally acceptable to just stop our conversation to answer it. If we were all in the same room and a third party just started talking to us in the middle of our conversation, that would be rude but call on the phone and you get top priority.

lol, i never take a call when I am talking to someone, unless it is a client or something important. that's what caller ID is for, to screen calls and call people back.

I used to sit across the hall from a lady with 1) lots of personal problems, 2) lots of freetime, and 3) that post-menopausal baritone that cuts through steel. For 3 years, I wore giant headphones at my desk, and didn't go close her door because she was also the mail room... it had to stay open. She got let go along with a couple hundred other folks a month back, and she came around to say goodbye to everyone and was like "so, I guess you'll really miss hearing my yell into my phone all the time, HUH" like all sarcastic. What do you say to that?
