I basically checked, how often I played these albums over the last year plus some vinyl spins and over how much time I heard them. a couple of these bands I saw live here, altogether 2010 was a great year for live shows. I really saw some incredibly awesome shows.

#20

the ruby suns // fight softly

#19

interment // into the crypts of blasphemy

#18

enslaved // axioma ethica odini

#17

chrome hoof // crush depth

#16

MGMT // congratulations

#15

rogue wave // permalight

#14

new pornographers // together

#13

blitzen trapper // destroyer of the void

#12

alain johannes // spark

#11

univers zéro // clivages

#10

john zorn // ipsissimus

#9

broken bells // broken bells

#8

maps & atlases // perch patchwork

#7

ghost // opus eponymus

#6

atheist // jupiter

#5

arcade fire // suburbs

#4

yeasayer // odd blood

#3

brown vs. brown // odds and unevens

#2

tera melos // patagonian rats

#1

here we go magic // pigeons

I know, that there will several albums just fade away, others, maybe even some of them more at the end of the list, will be played constantly for years. arcade fire for example was in heavy rotation for a couple of weeks, although I knew from the first listen on that this album won't change anything.
the most played album for me this year was tera melos, but they haven't been in europe to tour yet but I saw here we go magic twice and these guys just blew me away.

most of the time I listened to metal and classical stuff, but most of the metal stuff hasn't been released in 2010 and none of the orchestral stuff came out this year. so to give an impression, I listened to that tera melos album 22 times and to the ruby suns 5 times. the rest is in between.
there you go. there won't be too much interest in this list here anyway.

Nice list - I didn't even know there was a new Rogue Wave

I know I've said this a few times here already, but that Rogue Wave, outside of maybe 2-3 songs, was pretty terrible. And I've loved their first three albums.

Berliner, I thought you were a huge fan of the National. Didn't like High Violet?

Cool, didn't know Univers Zero had a new record out this year. Their debut was re-released a couple of years ago, and I used to spin it on my radio show. Good stuff, I'll have to check out the new one.

no, to be honest I've never heard an album of them. I watched a video of a new song in some late night show a couple of weeks before high violet was released but that didn't do anything for me. must be someone else. :-)

to rogue wave: I don't know, that album was really a lot of fun to listen to for some weeks, it sounds somehow enthusiastic. it's a while ago now, maybe this won't be an album I remember in 2 or 3 years, but for some time in 2010 I felt really connected to it. I'm into slick and shiny productions, so that might have been one of the reasons why I liked it.

wow, that's a surprise, another obner who knows and even likes univers zero! this new album is massive. I have all of their albums and I must say, this is one of their strongest releases so far. it's basically very modern chamber music, with some proggy elements but in a very mature and radical way.
until this album I was more in the 'present' camp, the other band of that bass player, which isn't less experimental and complex but contains electric guitars instead of the chamber orchestral instrumentation. present released an album last year, and I'm sure it appeared in my 2009 list if I knew it earlier. I listened to that a lot during the last winter.
say something if I can do something for you in terms of a link.

Cool will do. Yeah, I dig 1313. The live record was decent as well. Its been hit or miss with getting my hands on their records here stateside, though Cuneiform is their label now it seems. They aren't really that big within even the experimental and prog communities. Cuneiform has done a good job of releasing stuff. Looks like the new one is on there, and also they just re-released "Heresie", which I might pull the trigger and pick up. Do you have the "Archives"? How is that?

For reason. The cover is much better than the album.

it gets hated on but i really like it. definitely a different sound, but the material slays live and that was what really made me enjoy the record.

I don't have a last.fm, but I'd say at least 50.

Oh yeah! That Tera Melos was something I meant to keep listening to, but it was surpassed by whatever album of the day was in the TWENTYTEN thread.
