It's weird how our tastes seem pretty similar and really different at the same time.

I mean you've got albums that I love and stuff I can't stand on your list there, but overall I feel like I know where you're coming from and I respect it.

I do still want to hear those Waka Flocka and Freddie Gibbs things, but I don't know when I'll get around to them now. Also a little bit interested in Holy Fuck, Suuns, and Nobunny. I've just kinda decided to go stop trying to hear any more 2010 stuff for the time being.

yeah. i'm surprised you didn't like owen pallett seeing how much you like joanna newsom, as i feel like they have some similarities, but i can also see why people wouldn't like him too.

i think you'd like the freddie gibbs ep. not sure on the waka flocka.

the rest are probably a toss up.

surprised you because of the ranking or that i even like it?

i got a few overlaps with you.

i was a little let down by the dan sartain.
what turned me off was the two extra versions (of songs already on the album) at the end. it already felt repetitive, it didn't have to actually repeat.

didn't know about that ghostface. awesome. looking forward to hearing it.

What's so great about Owen Pallett as far as I'd be concerned?

to answer your question i am surprised by the deer tick being on there at all. i don't think they are terrible or anything, just a bit derivative and less unique than most of your other choices. i'm not saying i love everything on the list except for that, but i can see how someone else would. for instance, the owen pallett isn't really to my taste, but i can much more easily appreciate that it could be an awesome record to someone who responds to it more than i do.

in fairness i have not heard the deer tick record but i did see them (the were headlining when i went to see j roddy) and i found them pretty mediocre.

Yeah, Deer Tick. BARF. I decided not to go see Mark Sultan because Deer Tick was the main act. I fell asleep previewing them on the internet and missed the whole show.

Do I need to see them live to enjoy them?

I actually still haven't given him a fair chance. I probably should, though. That would have been a good one to throw into my end-of-the-year rush.

I should really check out Titus Andronicus based on how high everyone seemed to place it.

yeah, it was less raw compared to his other albums but i think it still had enough good songs that i enjoyed it most of the way through. i think those 2 extra songs are only itunes bonus tracks. they're not on the cd that i have.

i don't think you'd like it at all. gay violin player from canada makes a concept album about a farmer and a god-like deity, also named owen. don't you like of montreal though? this doesn't really sound like them but i'm not sure what you'd really be into. this is probably the song that first hooked me on the album.

as for deer tick, maybe i'm a little biased since they're from new england, but i just like john's voice and think they write some pretty good songs. maybe a comparison is dbt, which i don't get at all.

I've only heard one song off Steal Your Face on some blog, and I was intrigued.

I like this list at lot, though it's not surprising (harrumph).

I got to that Crocodiles late in the year and it's really grown on me. Sounds as if Jesus and Mary Chain were San Diego surfers not scottish heroin addicts.

Do I need to hear Owen Pallett?

didn't Owen Pallett release another EP this year too?

re: mike simonetti and johnny jewel albuterol, what's with new indie bands stealing old record album covers? it's lazy at best.

speaking of best mixes of the year I was kinda hoping to see a "best remixes of 2010" thread

We have Ariel Pink in the same spot. I was hot on that Holy Fuck at first and then cooled on it shortly after.

I do dig that Dan Sartain. I listen to it pretty frequently at work.

I'll have to check that Snowden, did not know one was out. Also, that Intelligence is pretty damn good. I remember seeing them on a blog and they sounded interesting. I never chased it down and forgot about them. Not this time.

that apollo kids is dynamite! glad cotton got you to re-post that. also, nice to see mi ami on a list despite this record falling a bit short of their debut.
