There is a place here that buys plasma for $25 a session, 2 sessions per week. It normally takes about an hour per session. I'm leary because I hate being poked with needles but $50 a week for two hours of my time ain't bad. Plus, you get to read a book or something for that time, and they give you free snacks and juice.

Am I just being a wimp for not taking advantage of this?

If you plan to do this more than a few times, it may be worth it. From what I remember, the first time you donate takes about 3 hours (this is factoring in paperwork/medical history/etc). Plasma centers are generally chock full of unsavory types, so you have been warned.

You often get a free "fruit drink" afterwards, too!

mike is right. the majority of the people that go to those places are pretty shady. a friend of mine used to work at one, and it was mostly folks that were pretty fucked up. the problem is, they don't drug test at many of these places, so you get addicts in there to give blood and then go spend it on crack and meth.

no thanks. get a part time job somewhere. it's not very good for your self esteem going into a place like that every week for a mere $50.

Well, I'm in a pretty small town, and from what I've heard is if you go between 6:00am and 8:00am the average people in there are folks scoring a few extra bucks before work and retirees who have nothing better to do in the morning. Its more towards the afternoon that the shady people show their faces.

Sell bone marrow from your hip. I did that every six weeks for a couple years and it was like $1600 a pop.

It's not that bad. I mean, a kick in the nuts is way worse, you dig?

Donating plasma became a part-time job for me in college. I think I made about $40-50/week for being in minimal pain for an hour. It's an easy way to make money and as an added bonus to know it's helping people. To me, two hours per week at the plasma clinic was way better than working 10 hours a week somewhere else and netted me the same amount of money. My warning, other than the shady people, is that it can make you a little tired. I never gave if I needed to study for an exam or something.

The shot of high sugar fruit juice at the end was also a tasty reward.

yeah i did this in college for gas money. it never really wore me out, i always rode my bike to and from the clinic. the thing that grossed me out was the color of my plasma, relatively clear, and the color or some other peoples, relatively GRODY.
