Was listening to Dance Pieces last night and realizing how little I know about this fellow. I also have a copy of Koyaanisqatsi somewhere. But really, I'm not sure where to even start looking for more stuff to check out.

Anyone have any favorites to suggest?

IMO he's very hit or miss with the stuff he does whether its collaborating with rock folk, doing soundtrack scores, or performing his own classical piano music.

Koyaanisqatsi is pretty brilliant but most of the other things I've heard such as the soundtrack to "1000 Airplanes On The Roof", "The Photographer", or "Mishima" is just not very good.

I kind of feel that he does more interesting music when working with others.

Coincidentally, I just got this last week and I hated it:

This one is supposed to be good but I've never heard it.

Mishima score is very good. Amazon had the Orange Music sampler for free awhile back. That's not too bad.

This was rec'd to me:

Oh, also you should watch his documentary on Netflix streaming if you can - that might be a good introduction

Looking more for suggestions than anything specific. Got any favorites to recommend?

If you want to upload EotB, I wouldn't be opposed.

I like a lot of the pieces he's done, but think in general his dance pieces have been his weakest. Conjunto Iberico (Cello Octet) is probably my favorite of his, the 2nd and 3rd parts of Company are pretty great, and Music In Twelve Parts I would recommend as well.

I really love Einstein on the Beach. It's really long, but has some really neat intermingling of instruments and voices.

Speaking of Philip Glass. In my cab ride from LAX to downtown I got to see where the big jets go over the freeway...it was such great scene in Koyaanisqatsi. I'm pretty sure that is where the shot came from. And the second I witnessed it in person, I teared up a little. Love it.
