Rachel Maddow mentioned on Bill Maher that Keith and the company just decided to part ways. I think his contract was up in mid February.

I'm thinking that he might be a quitter.

According to everything I've read, there were 2 more years left on a 4 year contract. As far as being a quitter, at best, I'd think it was a mutual decision- there had been increasing hate between Olbermann and network execs since the contribution bullshit in November. At worst, it was execs knowing that the corporate culture at Comcast is decidedly right-leaning, and accelerated the situation in anticipation of the new broom. Don't be surprised to see a couple more disappear. Comcast is a bottomless shithole that should never have been allowed to own that network- apparently, they moved MSNBC into an upper-tier package, meaning it would only be available to those willing to pay another $200 pr year for the privilege of having a counterpoint channel to Faux News, which Comcast kept in the cheaper package.

Having said all that, I doubt Olbermann will be crying from a buy-out- he has the goods to get his ticket punched in a diffrent venue return whenever the stay-off-tv time period expires.

I remember when he did this from his old show back during the Lewinsky scandal (I think I was literally one of ten people watching); I've always figured he would do the same thing at some point.

Comcast didn't move MSNBC into an upper tier package--it's always been there.

I think that it may depend where you live, we get MSNBC and we are just on their Digital Starter plan.
