If you love KEXP and take advantage of their online services you need to pledge right now on www.kexp.org

How can you pass up an I "heart" KEXP t-shirt.

I've got mine coming.

Do it.

OK- I made my contribution and I don't know if this is the last time or not. The station inches ever closer to the mainstream, fired and reassigned two DJ's who actually pushed all the boundaries they claim to push every day, and have bascially watched the quality of their programming go on a major slip over the last two years.

I have supported tihss station since the day I got to Seattle and will continue to do so, but I honestly can't remember the last time I was able to listen for more than 20 minutes or so without turning it off in disgust.

Where other radio station plays stuff like this? What mainstream station? How about the reggae show on saturday mornings or expansions on friday and saturday night?

By the way, what dj's got fired? How are they getting mainstream?

Amanda was fired- Stevie was reassigned to shit shifts. Kings of Leon is on The End as is Trail of the Dead. Richards plays Hoover Dam all the fucking time, so while its not on a mainstream station- it might as well be in his "playlist".

Its better than any mainstream station, but Jesus if they don't play the same shit that the end plays right now. KEXP's base is more extensive, but check out the End's website & see the "new music that matters section" & you'll find much of the same stuff KEXP is playing right now.

Dude- I stand behind their table & schlep shit off for them at live shows- I promise I support this station as best I can, but as someone close to it- they are making major changes with Paul Allen's departure. I love the specialty shows more than anything else- you cannot find three hours of better radio than the Roadhouse on Wednesday nights- unfortunately, my wife wants me to spend that time with her rather than getting sucked into three hours of music where I sit silently listening instead of talking to her.

I was suprised a few weeks ago to hear John Richards pulling night shift at The END. I've only been a KEXP listener less than a year and am quite impressed with what I hear on a regular basis. My girlfriend just signed up for the 500 club so that should be sweet.

I didn't realize that Amanda was fired.

I'll been a longtime listener starting in the KCMU days while visiting my sister in Seattle but i only started contributing when they were offering the KEXP tractor t-shirt.

The commercial stations in Boise play bad rap and r&b, and the alternative station plays The Used and Hoobastank stuff. So i don't have to deal with "The End".

I like the fact that kexp will play stuff that's good even if it's on another station.

I can see some of your frustration but the station is great.

I contribute to my local boys, KXLU...
It's better to butter your bread close to where you live...

And, if I turned on a radio station to hear 3 Pixies songs in a row, I'd call "DJ Apathy", no matter what the promotion tactic/intent was...

I like the fact that they can do that. I don't find it apathetic at all.

Does KXLU broadcast on the internet?

What's the scope on the firings and reassignment? I don't see Stevie Zoom listed as an employee anymore.

I just donated to their pledge drive. It's probably the most diverse radiostation I've ever heard-great programming. I think I like it better than kexp.

I actually pulled up the SUnday playlist with relegious programming all day, further research helped me determine that you weren't joking.

KEXP is still better. Hands down.

Not cool as in you think it sucks or not cool as in I wish you hadn't show this to me because it looks interesting and neat and might challenge kexp reign atop independent radio? I think this station is the cat's meow.

Sorry, i need to explain better. I went straight to the playlist and it showed The Jesuit Hour, then Holy hour etc, etc. etc.... i thought it was a joke. I thought it was a relegious station i.e. a joke.

My guess is they'd never play these songs in this order on your station

12:27 Doves There Goes The Fear The Last Broadcast

12:23 Earth Wind & Fire September The Best Of Earth, Wind & Fire, Vol. 1

12:10 XTC Dear God Dear God

Those are all very good songs.

Plus the Kaiser Chiefs song - I Predict a Riot that followed is another catchy number.
