Though even better news would be an end to their 8-year hiatus, here’s an exciting consolation prize for hungry Fugazi fans: Speaking with World of Fugazi (via Punknews), Guy Picciotto revealed that the band are planning to put (almost) their entire live archive online, with a first collection of shows tentatively set to hit the web later this year or in the beginning of ‘11. “We are not that far away,” revealed Picciotto, “from being able to set up our own website where ultimately almost every show we ever played will be available for download.”

Chunklet’s 40-minute stage banter collection was fun, but 15 years worth of live audio being digitally released by one of the best live punk bands ever is a pretty big deal around here. An announcement by Ian McKaye and Jeff Nelson’s Dischord Records is said to be on the way as the project reaches fruition.

A lot of these have been available directly from Dischord on cd for a number of years. At one point I was gonna drop the $300+ to pick it up. Wonder what the price point on these shows will be?

Yeah, I was going to say - I seem to recall there being a site up a few years ago that Joe was running with an archive of their live recordings for sale. I nabbed their set from Fredericton here in NB.

The Wayback Machine has a ghost of it:

I will buy the Milwaukee show from November '98 -- if available, naturally -- assuming there will be a swatch of the sweatpants Ian wore during the show provided with purchase.

Sweat. Pants.

I bought a couple of those live CDs. Out of this digital archive, I'm just interested in hearing the shows I went to (which weren't part of the CD collection).

I'll wait until the fan sourced rating system separates the wheat from the chaff.

I've been a fan since 1991, but have never seen them live. Their on my bucket list, but they' mid/late-40s now so don't know how excited I'd be for a "reunion"

I bought the first 9:30 club show on 10/6/88 for the hell of it. The sound is a little raw at times, but damn is it awesome. I'll probably get some of the later shows I was at just for nostalgia.

Fugazi is awesome. This project is going to be amazing when it is all complete.

Considering the old 9:30, I'm surprised they even recorded it. That source tape probably had pee, puke and blood on it.

also:
Quote:
The band has rated each show for sound quality and set the general price of a download at $5 per show. If you have a different price in mind feel free to utilize the alternative pricing option.

I wonder how many people are putting in $.01?

I think you have to pay at least $1. Because of transaction fees, if they charge less than that Ian claimed they would actually be losing money for the purchase.

The one I made (London, Nov 3 '02) and should have made (State College, Sep '93) are both recorded but not yet available. <insert obvious "Waiting Room" reference>

Is there a way to filter by sound quality or rating yet? I haven't dug into this too deeply but couldn't find one.

I can think of a lot worse ways to spend my days, but every show, no...however, I will be taking in a massive amount of these.
