Anyone seen this film yet? Finally caught it last night and was fucking blown away. Never seen anything like this film ever before.

On my instant queue. Just waiting for the right time to watch it. Wish I could've seen it in the theaters, seems like a pretty good sensory film.

I've got it in the queue.

Yeah, I would have liked to seen this in the theater after taking some hallucinogens...

I missed it when it ran at our local art house. Looks like an acid trip on film.

the hallucinatory visions the kid see in the beginning of the film during his DMT trip are just fucking insane. Gaspar has really captured 'tripping' on film, something that most directors have failed to do. you feel like you're in there. pretty fucked up.

the sex scenes towards the end and the final scene floored me. the way he moves in and out of the characters, just unreal. can't really be described imo.

How novel.

Nah, this sounds like some good watching.

So, yeah...This was crazy. Definitely impressive film-making. I read in some review that said he got the idea for this film by watching "The Lady in the Lake" (a film noir told entirely from the point of view of the one character)...while on mushrooms. Not sure if that's true, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was. I streamed this to my iMac from nextflix, which while it looked OK, I have a feeling it wasn't how it was intended to be seen. I wish I would have seen this in the Theater, but I'd settle for the Blu Ray.

yeah, it's going to be bananas on blu ray for sure. looking forward to watching it again then.

that's interesting about his idea for the film.

A friend of mine who writes for Blue-Ray.com said the BR is pretty incredible. Don't think he got to review it for the site, but said its a pretty gorgeous transfer.

I have friends who have trouble making it all the way through movies with undivided attention. I think it's weird, but am familiar with the type.

yeah i'm bad with movies in general unless i'm in the theater, even though i download a lot - but the pace and craziness of Enter the Void was just too much. I made it halfway through and had no idea what was going on and felt uncomfortable haha

this is the way much of the film looks. his use of color and softness is just extraordinary.

just bought my ticket

Quote:
ENTER THE VOID: Director's Cut
Dir. Gaspar Noe, France/Japan, 2010, 165min, 35mm

Wednesday, March 2nd at 7:00 and 10:00pm - On Sale Now

Regarding the "Director's Cut", it's a bit of a misnomer as this was actually the version released in the rest of the world. During Noe's visit to the Belcourt last May, he explained that there was an obligation to produce a shorter running time for his US distributor.. As many of the complete film's 9 reels end in a descent into darkness, Noe chose to remove the seventh reel altogether, a cut that would retain a seamless transition while keeping intact the abortion and "Love Motel" sequences. Here, for one night only, we present the entire film.

Gaspar Noe's long-awaited follow up to his controversial IRREVERSIBLE, ENTER THE VOID is a visceral journey set against the thumping, neon club scene of Tokyo, which hurls the viewer into the drug-addled brain of a small time American drug dealer in Tokyo who lives with his similarly troubled sister, a nightclub stripper. A visually astounding trip through life, death, and the universally wonderful and horrible moments between, ALL VIEWERS BE WARNED: this is an intensely graphic film, but an undeniably accomplished one at that. NO ONE UNDER 18 WILL BE ADMITTED. Viewers with sensitivity to strobes should avoid altogether.

Last night I smoked a bowl and went to watch the Director's Cut with a friend at our local art house cinema. My wide-eyed reaction after it was over was "pheeww" (it was an all-encompassing assault on my senses).

Afterwards I went home and talked about it to femdisco for about 20 minutes just trying to digest what I had seen. It was the most immersive, trance-inducing film experience I've ever been a part of. I can't say if I "liked" it or not, as it was a completely new experience for me. You can probably draw a few comparisons to imagery and tone of Blade Runner and the more psychedelic scenes of 2001: A Space Odyssey, the surrealistic storytelling of David Lynch and graphic tendencies of Cronenberg films.

The still Dalen posted above was a little misleading as I was expecting the tone to be a little more lighter side of ethereal than the darkside. The movie definitely had a hallucinatory affect on the viewer, at least it did on me. I was blown away.

My only complaints:The repeated use of the super close-up tracking shot into what I would call a "worm hole" was overused and the last 15 minutes in the Love Hotel were kind of pointless and I think it could've been left out as the supernatural lights coming from the genitals were definitely over the top.

I will 100% say this movie IS NOT for everyone, and I imagine a lot of people would find it boring and couldn't make it through it. I forsee it will reach cult status with stoners and kids looking to take psychedelics to.
