Thanks.

i'm pretty sure we've never discussed Dylan on here and I am sure there are limited resources that you could go to in order to find out more about Dylan's recorded output, but, neverminding that, you should get Bringing it All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde on Blonde, and perhaps New Morning and John Wesley Harding.

Sorry, but I haven't heard enough BD to know if each disc sounds the same, style-wise & quality of the recording as well. Should have been a little clearer. Don't want some old disc that sounds like shit, and don't want a newer one where his voice sounds like shit.

Actually, Dylan and EVH have a lot in common when it comes to alcohol abuse, bizarre performances, and overall wacky behavior.

They have also both been in the public eye since they were essentially teenagers which means they have more in common than 99.99% of people.

It never ceases to amaze me how different the business was in the '60s and even '70s. The Beatles entire career spanned eight years! David Bowie went from psychedelic folk to glam rock to the Thin White Duke to the Berlin trilogy in 10 years, releasing more than an album a year from 1969-1977 (plus 1979 and 1980). CCR released six albums in three years.

If you add up all the time Dylan spent in the studio from 1960 through 1990 for 30 albums, it is less than the Beatles spent on Sgt Peppers alone.

Desolation Row
Positively Fourth Street

DISC 2

It is absolutely one of his lighter offerings, artistically, and not what most Dylanophiles would consider "essential," but the one Dylan album that I always enjoyed the most is Nashville Skyline. The playing is great and the songs are incredibly singable. "Lay Lady Lay", "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You", "I Threw it All Away", "Peggy Day", and so on.
Others will steer you towards the bigger, grander artistic statements, but I love it.

Quick glance it looks like nothing on that collection is from Nashville Skyline. So, I reiterate my advocacy of said album.

No problem. I hope these songs resonate in some way or another.

It wasn't intentional to overlook this, his 26 minute alt-country record. I put this togther a few years ago, and with the benefit of hindsight I prolly should have included at the minimum 'I Threw It All Away'. Unfortunately, only so much can be crammed on a two-disc set.

My comment wasn't an indictment, just an observation to point out that there is an important part of his catalog that wasn't covered, that still needs to be checked out. S'all good.

Many an argument was made about the merits of Nashville Skyline in that Dylan listening thread but, for me, I can't argue it not being great.

I just think it's great because it was such a departure from his scorched earth 60's output. I'm not sure it would've been seen as a classic if it were recorded by, say, Porter Wagonner or somebody. (although it might've).

Just think for someone looking to dig deeper with Dylan, the 60's trilogy is absolute rocknroll bedrock.

No worries, none taken. Actually, a whole lot of his oeuvre was looked over. A whole lot.

With all the wacky shit happening in the world in 1969, rock n roll was evolving and sometimes not for the better. Woodstock was a few months away, and not far from where the event was to take place, here's Dylan recording an effin country record. Nutty.
