i'd never heard the clarkson song til a friend sent it to me after i heard the ted leo version this afternoon. eh, whatever. i do like that he tosses in a little "maps" toward the end, though.

Who the fuck is Kelly Clarkson?

She's (considerably) hotter than indie-sexplate Karen O, to start.

As to the cover of Ms Clarkson's song, while seemingly done in the same spirit as Travis Morrison's cover of Ludacris, it is not as juvenile, nasal, or (even) mocking. In fact, it has a definite sincerity to it, since it is done in the overall Ted Leo style; he did not stop, put on his "Weird Al" cap, and then have it, laying into the "pap" without hint of mercy or understanding and putting it in its place just because, you know, he is smarter than Kelly Clarkson or her handlers.

Also, I have to think, if Leo were a younger man, and now enrolled at Notre Dame (instead of being, what, forty, and an alum), that being able to lay into Kelly Clarkson on his guitar would net him a lot of coeducational muff. In fact, it probably will still get him some, in the form of alumnae at ND grad functions.

So, this is a winner in my book. A very solid B. But, a B+ if, like my eleventh-grade pre-calc teacher, I have been drinking before and while grading it.

first of all, i'm not sure ted leo actually graduated from notre dame. there's been a lot made of him attending, but i can't recall ever seeing that he's a grad. secondly, ted leo is 36 or 37 and married. so, irish trim is probably not on his agenda.

of course, i do understand this was in jest.

dOOdz, since when have rock fucking stars been monagamous? Even that "values"-voting douche-bag Kid Rock likes multiples; so, I doubt a secular-humanist lefty heathen like Ted Leo would be any better a man when it comes to keeping it one-on-one with his wife.

Also, from what I was told as an undergrad, one is an alumna/us of a university as long as s/he has attended at least two years (four semesters) there. Thusly, the puds who dropped out of my school after one year -- Leslie Meyer, pride of Rhinelander, I am looking at you -- are not alumnae/i, but those puds who flunked out after two -- Mr Julie Bartlein, who could no way no how be one hundred pounds (at least) heavier than I -- are alumnae/i.

Of course, one can just actually graduate from a university, so as to have not to trouble with the math of "am I an alum or not? for how long was I there?".
