no steroids for this bad boy.

"Harmon Killebrew, the Hall of Famer who developed the strength to hit home runs by lifting 10-gallon milk cans as an Idaho farmhand and grew up to be one of the most feared sluggers of his generation, died on Tuesday morning at his home in Scottsdale, Ariz., four days after announcing that he was ending treatment for esophageal cancer. He was 74."

Heard about this on sportstalk today on my lunch break.

Total beast.

Also, a fact I didn't know. He was the MLB logo:

first autograph i ever got as a young'n (long after he retired). helluva a ballplayer and an even better human being. i've only lived in the twin cities for a few years but i've truly grown to love this man - the stories of his humility & kindness are those rom a dying era. i've shed a tear for two heroes in as many wks - seve & now HK.

As a kid, I used to love watching him rip them out of the park on re-runs of Home Run Derby

There is some debate. The designer says that he created it from a bunch of players. But, he cannot recall which ones, so the mystery continues. Killebrew himself told people it was him though, a la Jerry West/NBA logo. Its hard not to believe that its not him though. Same shoulders/batting stance.

:( About one minute after I saw the Killebrew email this morning I walked past a tearful Tony Oliva. Tony always seems so happy, it was really depressing to see him like that.

Sat behind him on a flight once. He was very nice and accommodating when my Dad & I talked to him while waiting for our luggage.

This is pretty awesome. That announcer is cheese city. Do they say what ballpark they are hitting in?
