This does not bode well.

Quote:
The Recording Industry Association of America has filed legal action against Box.net, a company that provides cloud-based storage for businesses, with the allegation that its users have been pirating music. In a declaration filed on Wednesday, the RIAA requested a subpeona of Box.net to investigate specific users believed to be abusing the service by hosting pre-release music files.

This marks the first time that that RIAA has targeted a cloud-based service. Though the trade group has won several battles with peer-to-peer file sharing services – including a recent $105 million settlement with Limewire – battling legitimate companies such as Box.net, which is marketed as a secure method for businesses to share content, may be more of a challenge.

this will fail. box.net is essentially for storage. they'll have to prove that users have been using it solely for piracy, and the RIAA will have to go after the hundred other file sharing companies as well.

Yeah, are they going to sue every cloud-based storage system is existence?

If they win this, I'm gonna wish the rapture had happened this weekend. Jesus.

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. The RIAA said they were going to target online storage sites. After going after 1000s of individuals all over the US, I can't imagine they won't go after most every cloud-based storage system.

Now here's an interesting idea.
