the Shins are a must see. Catching them back-to-back nights in April. Dead Meadow is on my "wanna see" list.

I saw them open for !!! @ The HFonda - they were definitely rockin' from my close-to-the-stage position, but I can see how it would be a bit off-putting to go to a !!! show, expecting one dancy, funked-up thing and ending up with some Deerhoof instead...

I think they're pretty solid live...

I've only seen the Decemberists and Shins from that list.

I would definitely see the Decemberists--great show.

The Shins were ok, but a little boring---the old "sounded just like the album" type of boring, with very little crowd interaction.

I'd be interested to see what the Books do live.

I didn't like Dead Meadow at all when they opened for some band I don't recall right now.

The Decemberists are fantastic and very energetic live. If you like the Shins, the show is well worth seeing.

out of curiosity, have you seen these bands in person or is this based upon their albums and video you've downloaded?

I would think The Decemberists would be a helluva lot of fun, live.

Also, if Poster Children are coming to your town anytime soon, DO NOT MISS THEM!!! One of the greatest live bands ever.

i'm going to that one here on saturday. i've seen vietnam before and i really didn't like them, but i can see where other people would. they're loud as shit and are pretty druggy in that "just listened to hendrix at woodstock for a month" way, so if that sounds interesting then i think you might enjoy it. i haven't seen the comas in probably 8 years, and i like the new album so i'm mostly going out of curiosity, although the gf has already informed me that i'll be going alone.

Do you know who any of the opening bands are? That might sway my opinion on some of these.

I heard VHS or Beta are fantastic live. High energy, fun, makes you wanna dance. I enjoyed Ambulance LTD live as well... and I'm really bummed I won't be able to see them with Autolux in a couple of weeks. Gaaaaar.
