So did anyone start a thread for this year yet? I didn't see one in my search.

Who would have thought that after the first week the Lightning would be higher in the standings than the Caps. WSH, LOL.

Speaking of TBL, I am working with the Norfolk Admirals again this year, the farm team for the Lightning and I got to meet and interact with Steve Yzerman last night. Probably one of the top 5 experiences of my life to date.

Let's hope Boston can get through their injuries and not be too far behind after the first quarter of the season.

haha. Yeah. Getting raped by Florida 6 to zilch last night didn't help. Granted TBL has a game in hand on WSH.

Not too worried about it. Its still early. Hershey dropped a game last night, which was a bigger disappointment, but thats only 'cause it was a home loss. Like I said, still early. Eye-ballin' up that game coming up vs. the Leafs, and then Nov. 11th v. TBL. I gotta try to get to a game here soon, if I can get tickets.

Q: What do you call a group of Canadians playing to a half empty arena in the US?

A: An NHL team

i know it's just a joke, but I feel the need to point out that the NHL has really good attendance numbers.

Chances of any of the ATL crew opening this thread are slim, but the Thrashers are finally a team that a fan could get behind. Instead of a delicate artiste like Kovalchuk, they've now got Evander Kane, who's a natural scorer with a fighter's psyche. Kane could be a real hero if anyone in that city still cares. The team is still gonna have a battle to get into the playoffs, but they've got a solid nucleus for the future.

One of my really good friends is a HUGE Thrashers fan: he keeps me up to date with what's going on so when I occasionally tune into a game I'm not totally lost.

Also, as of last night, Dish Network and Fox ended their stupid Bitch Fight so now I can actually watch a game if I want to. Hawks as well.

FWIW, I think there is and always will be a small and very loyal hardcore hockey following in the ATL, but I don't personally think it's worth it. Those hardcores would pelt me with pucks but it is what it is.

The hockey season is fun, but the playoffs can be by far the best playoffs of the big four. I hope to eventually be able to watch a game that doesn't include the Flyers, but currently I'm totally myopic in my interest.

Completely. Hey, the Miami Heat couldn't even sell out their home opener.

Vancouver has sold out every canucks game (regular season and playoff) since Nov. 14, 2002

Not to downplay Stamkos' start to this season, but Tim Thomas is 6 - 0, .984 sv%, and a 0.50 GAA, with 3 of his wins being shutouts. One of only 4 goalies to start off the season like that in the past 62 years. NHL player of the month FAIL.

I somehow picked up Tim Thomas on my fantasy team before he got hot. Yeah, dude is on fire. He comes to DC soon though, that should be interesting. Last time vs. Caps he was on.

Yeah, one goal allowed in 2 games against the Caps so far. Thought BUF managed to nip him twice. I guess his streak is over. Though he was still above average tonight.

So...the NHL all-star game format seems kinda fun. But, as Puck Daddy said, this could end up being another Crosby v. Ovie PR blast.

While he's amassing points at a consistent and typical rate, he's playing so far with a loss in his step. He's been kinda flat so far. Hell, last night was the first time he's even gotten a point in the first period this season.

I like the new All-Star format. Watching the draft should be fun.

Plus the fans only vote for 6 players now. I think Fan voting is kinda dumb. See: Fitzpatrick, Rory.

How about that Stamkos guy?

God that Philly/TBL game was nuts.

15 combined goals. 9 in the first period.

and the Flyers were a great save away from tying it up in the last seconds.

I was much more pissed off about that Flyers game last night vs the 3-0 shutout in MTL. There is no excuse giving up that many goals to the bolts the night after they just played in NY. The blew 3 2 goals leas during that game. I would give up Carter, JVR, and any amount of draft picks they want for Stamkos..That kid just gets where he needs to be and scores almost at will.
