"Hidden World' by Fucked Up- released in 2007 by Jade Tree.

Thanks Ramenamen - I enjoyed listening to this.

The album mostly sits on a foundation of uncomplicated traditional punk progressions (e.g. 'David Comes to Life' sounds like it begins with a how-do-you-do to the Ramones formula before expanding to incorporate a choral background as it broadens its horizon-of-influence) and "safe" hardcore delivery; and on this basis by itself the album will sound familiar to any fan of punk and/or hardcore. As my mind strayed (or made comparisons to other, favorited albums) necessarily given the well-trodden landscape covered, it would be brought back by the interspersed "post-" or experimental elements - strings, spoken word, noise, drones - that are sprinkled across some of the songs. Those notes made the album more interesting to me - observing how the songs morphed out from rather cliched punk structure and explored incorporating experimental, post- etc. elements.

Overall, 3/5 stars. I'd say my favorite two tracks are

'Baiting the Public'

and 'Jacob's Ladder'

I'd say so.

I've heard it as well. It comes off as a lost Les Savy Fav (at least the music) record with hardcore vocals (which I dislike).

No, I haven't. This is the first I had heard of them.

Glad you liked it, dude. I've been crazy busy and haven't had much time to check yours out, but from what I've heard I've liked so far. I'll post a full review sometime this weekend or next week.

i listened to part of the new one yesterday. i don't know how i feel about it yet. i like that there's male/female vocals but maybe it's just me but damien doesn't really have that great of a voice and it sounds like it's mixed too low so you can't really hear it that well over the music, which i don't find that interesting. it (the music) just seems like average punk/hardcore. i'll give it a few more spins though.

I really like the new album... it's grown on me with repeated listens.

Yeah, I've heard it twice in two weeks. And it's been playing non-stop.

the new one is far and away my favorite album of the year. Probably my favorite album since 2007 or so.

I kind of think Hidden World is their best. The ones since are just reaching...

Artistically, good for them. Just not really my thing. I like my hardcore to the point.

The Chemistry of Common Life is definitely my favorite, but I always felt like that Hidden World got kinda overlooked which is why I suggested it in the first place. I had ChemCom for a long time but only got around to listening to Hidden World this summer.

See, I think that's why I like it. Hardcore tends to bore the shit out of me, but the only thing that sounds like hardcore on this album are the vocals.
