I'd be way more interested if this was in multiple venues and more spread out.

The Potatomen? Weren't they an old Lookout band?

Some of these bands are playing reunion sets (Connie Dungs, Young Hasselhoffs, Potatomen) so they come from the 1990s. Potatomen are not only a Lookout band, they are Larry Livermore's (of Lookout Records fame) band.

Some of these bands are new, no real releases yet (Army Coach, Marshmallows, Sun Puddles) but are made from people in other bands (albeit that you would only know if you went to Insub previously).

Emily's Army partially came from Billie Joe Armstrong's sperm.

Kurt Baker is the guy from the Leftovers gone solo.

Everyone else is from New Jersey.

Cool. new Copyrights album (which I think is still 3/4ths of Dear Landlord) out this summer!

Yikes, why? I assume you mean spread out geographically? LIke the Fest is in Gainsville? This is a time when everyone gets together and hang out and listen to great music all together. That's hard to do when everyone is split into different venues.

The headliner, Chixdiggit?

I say I'm gonna pop in every year, maybe this is the year I finally do it. Also, I went to high school with the lead singer of The Firecrackers. Its kinda funny that she's fronting a pop punk band.

Looks like fun. I've known a couple people who used to travel out for those. I'd not be that interested to go that far to see it, but if I were nearby, I'd definitely be interested in checking it out.

I like Dead Mechanical. Traffic Street seems to put out the kind of pop-punk I like. And by that I mean stuff that sounds at least a little like Jawbreaker.

Yeah DM is one of my fav bands. Sam just moved to Florida so Traffic Street was on hiatus for a long while but things should be up and running again soon.

Yeah, I meant spread out like Fest in GNV. I get sick of being in the same venue for more than 4 bands. Too much concrete, not enough sun.

yeah I can see the advantages. Ottobar is a pretty decent size, though. Main floor, balcony, bar in the back, merch on the side, and then the upstairs bar/room to just chill out in if needed. and of course the alley and the parking lot. the show is part pop punk, part high school reunion - i would hate to attend and not run into my friends from California or the UK due to being not being on the same block at the same time on the same day.

Too bad its not in a great neighborhood...though fairly safe. Also, its was pretty great when Reptilian Records was next door.

Leaving tomorrow for this! If you want a taste of most of these bands in one handy-dandy podcast, Jim Jersey Beat does one every year:

A lot of bands are reuniting, especially in this fest-happy era.

ok, so this was awesome. such a fun time. pretty much EVERY band was good, though these were my favorites:

Army Coach
Gooningtons
Copyrights, The (got the new album, it slays)
Dead Mechanical
Dopamines, The
House Boat
Mikey Erg
Mixtapes, The
Potatomen, The
Young Hasselhoffs (for being their first show in 10 years they were awesome!)

Chixdiggit were also really good - when they played a song. They spent about 3 minutes between EACH song bantering and joking, thus cutting the quantity of songs played by a good deal. Still, what they DID play was great.

There's a running joke about Mikey Erg being in every band (this year no exception). Kepi Ghoulie ended his set by covering MOTO's "Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance To The Radio" and they extended it (but still rocked the fuck out of it) and Mikey came on stage and played guitar, then bass, then drums for the song. It was crazy, instrument-switching, rock'n'roll madness.

Is Mikey Erg's solo stuff just him & a guitar? The youtube stuff I saw were all Ergs acoustic covers, but I think they were pretty old.

yes, just him and his guitar. he only has one single out, and played both songs from that. the rest were ergs songs, and did one from Psyched To Die, and a couple covers.

Most likely isn't gonna happen. But I urge you and everyone to check out Night Birds. Featuring former members of Psyched To Die, The Ergs, and Hunchback. New album comes out very very soon.
