Beach Fossils: Self Titled and What A Pleasure EP

I really like these records. I see this called surf music or some such, but it's nothing like traditional surf music. Certaionly if I"m wanting to hear some Dick Dale or something similar this is far from there, especially in regard to the pace of the proceedings. It's moody and hazy, sharing only a bit of intricate guitar work and some serious amounts of reverb with more traditional surf music. I hear a big 80s influence from the whole moody, jangly guitar sound, which is more pronounced on the EP, which has a bit higher production form the fairly lo fi debut. Both records are great, laid-back summertime records though.

Fujiya & Miyagi: Ventriloquizzing

Mid tempo mix of funky bass lines, hushed vocals, krautrock timing and some electronic flourishes. I really dig this one. For me, it is a nice medium between being straight ahead and more experimental. Around here, not sure there would be lots of takers as it's too electronic and offbeat to appeal to people wanting some straight ahead rock songs, but not out there enough for people always wanting the next more unusual or latest thing. Bit it fits right into a good niche for me.

going to see Bon Iver tonight at the Ryman (sold-out show). I've only listened to the album once or twice.
would much rather hear this than the Nevermind tribute

I haven't. Didn't even know Thad Cockrell had a new band until a guy turned me onto them

Gotcha. I've been following him on Twitter for awhile, so I saw when he first started it up. How do you like the record.

Not sure. Listening on Spotify, and allmusic has no credit info. It was recorded in 2002, though.
This is what the description on some sites say:
Quote:
In the Spirit of Taizé, a new American recording of the music of Taizé, was recorded live at Ascension Church in Oak Park, Illinois under the direction of David Anderson.

Since October of 1992, on the first Friday of each month, Ascension Church has welcomed Christians from many traditions to pray in the spirit of the Taizé Community. Praying in word, song, and silence, the gathering has grown from an initial group of 30 people to over 800 people each month, including both local Chicagoans as well as visitors from around the world. The purpose of this ecumenical gathering is to pray for peace and reconciliation throughout the world. Together, all who attend raise their voices in song, and as one worshiping body, they lift their hearts in reverent silence. Their differences are left outside. At Ascension’s monthly prayer in the spirit of Taizé, praising God is all that matters.

This magnificent recording truly captures the spiritual experience felt each month at Ascension and is a worthy record of the service’s outstanding reputation in the Chicago area and beyond. This recording is filled with the spirit of Taizé!

Black Eyes - s/t
Wolf Eyes - s/t
Shabazz Palaces - Black Up
Curren$y - Weekend at Burnie's
Boogie Down Productions - By All Means Necessary
Eric B. & Rakim - Follow the Leader
Araabmuzik - Electronic Dream
Arica Hitech - 93 Millions Miles

That Araabmuzik album is just all-around terrible. This may the last time I'll ever listen to it. I think it's pretty safe to say that it has a lock-down on Worst Album of 2011 (at least as far as what I'll listen to).
