This is driving me crazy. I heard a song on sports radio a day or two ago while I was driving around, and I want to hear it again. Unfortunately, I don't have a great description to go by (or else I would be fine just googling it). In fact, I suspect no one will know what it is because there are probably a 1000 songs moonlighting by this description. But just in case...

I'm guessing the song is from the mid-80s-to-early-90s. I believe the main parts of the song feature female vocals, but the "chorus" or "bridge" or something features a strong male voice while most of the instrumentation drops out--has a fairly somber quality to it which contrasts nicely against the bouncy feeling of the rest of the song.

Of course the radio played just a segment of the song (it was either used as an intro or outro buffer between talking and commercial break). I know I had heard it previously, but it was looong ago, and I'm pretty sure I never knew what it was*.

*I'm guessing there is about a 70% chance this would be a song I would be shamed to publicly admit to liking.

Sorry, I lost internet for most of the weekend so I didn't have a chance to come back here. I'll check out the above suggestions and see what happens.

mutty: it was FOX Sports Radio. Actually listening to sports radio has, more than anything else, shown me how mainstream indie rock has gotten. They routinely play, of course, The Arcade Fire... but also The New Pornographers, Drive-By Truckers, etc. It kinda weirds me out that even the jocks now use this stuff like they would have used Top-40s radio.

Nothing for me is too obvious. Actually, when I heard Pop's voice I almost that this might have been it.

However, this song has the main part which is pure upbeat pop (which I think is more synth based--hence the reason I was judging the era to be 80s/early90s), but I wasn't even focusing on the song until it pulled a 180 on me) when it gives what I think is a bridge where the Iggy Pop-esque voice comes in. At that point there is very little in the way of instrumentation to judge by.

::grumbles at the stupid ~30 second clips these talk show folk use without attribution::

which show? Maybe you can find the song within the segment here and repost at Obner.

and could the song possibly be something by The New Pornographers or Peaches ft Iggy Pop - "Kick It"?

I like the idea, but nada. I think my best bet is just to listen to the show and hope they re-play it at some point... and make sure to jot down some lyrics for proper Google searching.
