so i want to run my iPod through a pre-amp i have attached to the auxillary port in my stereo. I have two questions:
1). Is this possible? Are there leads which convert from a headphone slot to audio (ie. L & R)?
2). Is there a risk, like blowing some sort of fuse in the iPod or Stereo?

I'd suggest getting/buying a base...

Running my IPod to my speakers = fine, but running my speakers through my base = sh-t almost blowing my speakers...

If you have a seperate preamp, though, base + preamp = louder, better, etc. ...

i have a separate pre-amp which i use for my turntable, but it has many slots (ie. one for microphone, phono, and two aux). It makes my turntable go like a charm, so if i buy a lead that converts headphone to stereo, and i run it through the pre amp into the base, it will be fine?

It should be the same as hooking up a portable CD player into it, if you've ever done that before...

You will have to adjust the EQ to get more Lows and Highs, though, if you're only using records...One of the limitations with using Digital (MP3) audio...

Best bet is to get a dock, which has a line-out jack on the back. Line-out jacks are at a universal volume that all other stereo components are, so there shouldn't be a concern of destroying anything. Going through the headphone jack, on the other hand . . . you're on your own there. It can be done, but just make sure the volume is down low when you hit 'play' and gradually move the volume up until you start hearing some distortion. For either of these solutions you'll need a mini-jack to RCA converter, which you can find at Radio Shack for a couple/few bucks. Or you can go to your closest Best City/Circuit Buy and pay a ridiculous amount for a much more stylish looking version that companies like Belkin are making a lot of money on because buyers don't realize that it's just a freakin' headphone-to-RCA Y splitter, and they're all the same!
