My daughter had her X-Mas pageant a few weeks back and we just got a copy of the DVD.

I'd like to extract the 4 minute song she was part of to send to family and friend...

what is the absolute easiest way to go about this?

im on a mac book pro.

any good software out there for free or **free**??

I don't need any special titles frames, or doo dads....Just want the 4 minutes...

thanks

There's a lot of variables at play here.

Are the clips just files (.mov, .avi, .wmv)? If so, you won't have any problems. If they aren't then you'll have to play around with something like Handbrake. This might be a little more labor-intensive.

Your best bet is to find someone who owns Final Cut and ask them to rip out the segment with MPEG Streamclip. This is because you need the Quicktime MPEG2 plug-in to rip from VOB files (these are the files found in the VIDEO_TS folder on the DVD). Otherwise, you might still be able to purchase the plug-in as a stand-alone, but I think it's $30 from Apple. MPEG Streamclip itself is free.

Either that, or Handbrake as mentioned above, but I don't think that allows you to rip/convert a segment. I could be wrong on this last note as I haven't used it recently.
