THE STAPLE SINGERS

Listening to them, I dance in my freaking char involuntarily.
It's useless to resist.
Pure joy.

And I'm not afraid to admit that I cried a little the day Pops died.

Everyone needs a little Staple in their life.
(And I've heard one track from Mavis' new album... it's great. Her voice is magic.)

I've only got one Staple Singers track in my whole collection but it's absolutely amazing.

City In The Sky. Admittedly, I only own one of their greatest hits LPs, but it is on vinyl. Bought it with a Dramatics record.

The Staple Singers cover Talking Heads' "Slippery People" on their 1984 album Turning Point." Mavis (I'm guessing) even sings the silly "buh buh BUH" part. It's wonderful.

It occurs to me that I love voices with a lot of "air" (for want of a better description) in them: Pops Staples, Richard Butler, Nick Drake...

I've never heard of them.
I take it, they are worth checking out?

Just one of the many reasons Stax is the greatest record label of all time...never to be replaced.
