Seriously.
With the possible exception of the Powerpuff Girls' power pop fixation, how can any of the new shows even touch...
Fat Albert
Hong Kong Phooey
or even the 60's bubblegum of
Scooby Doo????

Thanks. Now I have Banana Splits stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

Todd, you should dig out my 'Light' mix. Liz Phair and Material Issue doing the Banana Splitz theme. Awesome. That whole album, Saturday Morning Cartoons' Greatest Hits is a lot of fun.

Oh I have listened to it recently, my friend. And an awfully good mix it is, too!

Isn't Daniel Johnston of that Saturday Morning Cartoons' Greatest Hits album, too? What song did he do?

I dunno, I dig the Powerpuff Girls closing theme, and the Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Sealab 2021 themes are excellent.

That said, faves of all time:

Courageous Cat (resurrected as the base line to LL's "I'm Bad"
Spiderman (kick ass spin on a Mingus classic)

Daniel Johnston isn't on the Saturday Morning Cartoons' album but he is on the Schoolhouse Rock! tribute cd along with Blind Melon, Moby, Pavement, etc.

Both discs are awesome and are frequently pulled out of my catalogue to listen to. Along with the Powerpuff Girls' Heroes And Villains.

Am I crazy, or does anyone else remember a cartoon (very japanese, woulda been early 80's) called Star Blazers, or something like it? It was a huge battleship in space, and it had an enormous gun built into the bow...? I recall liking the song a lot, but then I was like 6.

Got me that on DVD, the theme song hasn't aged too well. The battleship was WWII Japanese battleship Yamato, which was salvaged from below, after the Pacific went dry. The gun was the Wave Motion Gun.

Now, the shuffle/swing instrumental closing theme to Speed Racer, on the other hand...tasty!

(stares off into space, reminiscing...) coool! Man, it's been a while. We were hooked on that show back in the day, until Transformers came along and took over.

Does the "You Got The Touch" song from Transformers the Movie count?

I have that shared on Colinswood.

I like the song for Dragon Tales. Noah likes that cartoon.

Agreed regarding the Sealab song. Every time we watch the show the song ends up in my head for a couple days.

Right now my son's favorite song in the world is the theme to Teen Titans on Cartoon Network. It's by those two japanese girls whose name escapes me.

He won't stop singing it. Josh gets really annoyed when he turns up the volume of the tv and sings at the top of his lungs to it, all while acting out superhero kicks and chops.
